Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know there is a 3l running perfectly fine in my driveway. No leaking fluids or anything. started right up. f-ing awesome! let it run at 2k rpms for 20 minutes and 3k rpms for 20 minutes. I'm gonna change the oil and get all the metal shavings that inevitalbly made it into the engine during porting and tab cutting tomorow. Then run another ~500 miles or so easy driving before really getting into the throttle. Anyways, I feel good right now because I had a couple celebatory bombay saphire martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. sweet. I'll keep you all updated.

Congrats man!! I'm dieing to get my 3L into my car.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Congrats on it firing right up. I just got my most recent built done last Saturday and it fired right up as well. Always a good feeling! I flushed my oil as well after the portmatching. I had the cams out so all the valves were closed during portmatching but you never know what aluminum shavings make there way around the motor. I cleaned out all that I could but those shavings that stick down on the valves scare me so I pressurized each cylinder and popped the valves until they sealed 100%. With the cylinder pressurized, I'd spray seafoam on the valves and if it bubbled from air escaping I knew I had to pop the valves a few more times until it completely sealed. Very easy to do with the heads on in my opinion and defenitly much cheaper than removing the heads.

Congrats and keep us updated.

Thanks! Yeah I also ran a can of b-12 through the vacuum ports before changing the oil. It is really loud! I have msds, sho y-pipe, and bassani with poly roll-restrictors and it feels like I'm in a race car. It really feels like it wants to run up the rpms, wich is wierd because I've been driving my modded 540i 6spd (~350ft-lbs) as a daily driver since October. The throttle response off idle is much quicker than the 2.5 was. Well, I'll be getting a nautilus tune through the mail in about 2 weeks or so. I'm running the stock svt tune until then. It rained this morning and I got to test the torsen out a little bit. About a 1/4 throttle on wet pavement and the tires brok loose for a second. Anyways, until next time...

Not a lot of action on here. I guess I'll have to reply to myself. :)

Anyways, I've run it for the initial 40 minutes and about 100 miles now and it is driving me mad! I dipped into the throttle from 3500-5000 rpms today just to "make sure" the secondaries were working. They are and it feels pretty good so far. Temp gauge stays below the middle at all times and it runs really smooth. Had a lean bank 2 cel come on the day after I got it running so I changed out the 02 sensor last night and hopefully it will go away.

Cheers.
Mike

I keep saying when I pay off the tour I'm going to do this, and the time has nearly arrived.

Congrats.
