Just wondering where you guys get your alternators and where the good deals are? My Svt has been having charging problems for a while now. Already changed out the Mega fuse, new battery, bout to relocate battery to trunk and buy an alternator..
So any suggesting on what brand or where to get one would be appreciated.

I say that because almost everyone seems to have problems with remanufactured alternators from auto parts stores. Ford alternators have been the only ones proven to not have problems.

Auto parts stores probably have much lower prices but plan on replacing it again in the near future. Some CEGers have used up to 5 different alternators until finally going with Ford and not having problems.

I have had a Advanced Auto reman alternator for 5 years / 80,000 miles  I must be an exception. Go OEM like he said.

I got new brushes from o'reille auto parts for ten bucks, no one else had them and most said I would not be able to get them anywere. OEM alternator now works like new.

If you take off the white cover on the back of the alt. it will pull the brushes with it, you should be able to tell if they are badly worn, or gone like on mine.
Clean the contacts on the shaft with a sctch bright, make sure they dont have any damage and you should be good.
As long as the shaft bearings did not go bad (check the shaft for play), most of the time it will only be the brushes.

Worth a try befor you spend almost 200 on a new alternator.

It has always been my belief that most of the time, it's only the brushes that wear out and have to be replaced. However, since it's such a PIA to get the alternator out, I guess most people feel better replacing the whole thing so that they won't have to do it again in the foreseeable future.

I must be the exception to the ford reman rule. I bought a ford remanufactured alternator two months ago and it's bad again. Here comes more money! Alternator is under warranty, but a friend of a friend installed it so I'm going to have to pay for install again. I might just do it myself this time.

Anyone have a good write-up? I did a search, haven't found anything.

Rock auto seems to have very high shipping prices and the parts are priced close to local auto parts store.

My Duralast from autozone has been fine for over two years, BTW I'm also running a Multi amp sound system FWIW.
