Any other E1 owners done this? I just did it a second ago but I keep reading about a performance drop because of the IAC. Anyone else added the fitting and noticed that?

If there is a performance difference, it'll probably only show on a dyno. I've had my pipe cap in for about 4 years and have been on the dyno a bunch of times, but didn't think to do a run w/o it. Though.... since it actually makes the car drivable, I doubt that I'd remove it even if it cost 5hp.

From the old forum, if I remember correctly, there was speculation that it would screw with the xgt0 ecu and would cost a few hp.

 i have a hard time believing alot of things from the old boards. alot of it was speculation, and some has been proved wrong over the years.

I have a hard time believing you've even seen the old boards..
:D :D

Seriously, the amount of rehashed information in this forum on a monthly or even bi-annually basis is enormous... what is even more gigantic than that is that its not rehashed for the first time.. this is like.. re-re-re-re-re-re-rehashed from the old boards.

The MAJORITY of things on the old forums are as true as they were then. Sure, SOME things are discounted.. SOME things are debated.. but 95% of all the factual and helpful threads from the original archives and old forums ,both, are still applicable today..

we've had this discusion more than once, you've been a member maybe a year longer than i have, depending on what month you joined in 01'.

to get back on topic,i'm not saying the old stuff is factual,i'm saying alot of what was preached back then was "theory"..ie,the dual honed manifold..proved wrong, the svt pcm will provide zero gains on a non svt..proved wrong. the only one that still stands strong is the fact that the cdw27 platform is :censored::censored::censored::censored: for drag racing:laugh: .

i've never seen a dyno proving that the hang fix causes any drop in performance,if butt dyno's are in accurate for intakes and exhausts what makes them accurate in this instance:confused: .....my 2cents,take it for what is worth:shrug:

I assumed it was a butt dyno issue so I wont worry about it too much.

Because I'm forever beating the drum about stock parts, Motorcraft this, Motorcraft that, I was reluctant to introduce a foreign object like the pipe cap into the car. So I wheeled out the Berryman's (after putting out my cigarette, of course), and cleaned the IAC very thoroughly. I even involved a rag and a Q-tip after flooding the valve with Berryman's, then letting it drain out. I also cleaned the throttle body to make sure that any carbon accumulation wasn't causing the throttle plate to stick open slightly. After putting everything back together, the car's been great.

er.... what's that have to do with the TH fix? You can put a brand new OEM IAC on and you will still have throttle hang.

I like the results from the pipe fitting. But when ADC dyno tuned me, I was talking to Keith about it and that it would be nice if the rev's dropped even faster w/o affecting idle quality. So he messed with the dwell and he made that happen.

i changed IAC's twice then did the TH fix with the copper cap in my 99 E1. it fixed everything and have had no problems at all. you just have to play with the size of the hole depending on how fast your RPM's drop. no biggie

I was about to ask the same question.

Plenty, depending on your situation. Folks have experienced throttle hang that was remedied by doing the things that I did, or replacing the IAC. These things are not going to work in all cases, but they're certainly worth a shot before installing the cap.

I agree that cleaning things up is a good idea, but these cars hung revs from the factory so any change in the problem would clearly be a slight change to a bad problem, not a fix for it. Cleaning is almost free but replacing a $75-100 IAC probably wont change the situation but a 50 cent fitting will.
