Does anyone have or know someone with an Alpine IDA-X001?

Thinking about getting one, the reviews on Crutchfield look good.

Pretty sweet units if you have most of your media on a portabled HD or IPOD, unit is mostly designed for IPOD from what I've seen. Does not have a CD tray so make sure you remember that....

If I had this I'd buy a large portable HD that had a low power consumption that powered off USB, and didn't have an external power source, and I'd hook it up to the unit and hide it good, never have to change stuff again, have all your music with you....

Radio specs...

OOoooo I just had a sweet idea... get two of these

then wire one up in your car to your head unit, and wire one up to your home computer, just pop HD in to car for music take home pop into dock and upload new music...

fwiw, I would hang on for a week or so maybe. Being an admin you hear things ;) and one of the things I've heard is that someone is planning a group buy very soon for a similar head unit from another manufacturer. I'm not at liberty to divulge the details, but let's just say I'm already in line for one. Keep an eye on the group buy section for updates.

If you plan on using an external HDD make sure that the head unit can handle it. I can't remember the specs on this alpine but a lot of head units can handle like 4 gigs or 8gigs at most. You wouldn't want to go out and buy it, attempt to hook up an external HDD, and have it not work.

Hrm thanks... my problem being that I need one that works with a iPhone well with no issues, it seems as though this one has good reviews in that area. I'm in no hurry yet, so I can wait a bit :D

Well I was looking into it because I don't use CD's much anymore now that I have a iPhone. This one popped up and it seems as though most iPhone users are happy with it. That and Alpine has a good reputation. If that's the case, just get a 30 gig iPod and hook it up.

If the external HD you got was more than 500mA draw, then you could always buy one that had an AC adapter and hard wire the power for it... some modification required...
