Won't go into Reverse

So every now and then I can't seem to get my car into reverse, I don't know what the deal is. I go to put it into R and nothing (and I am using the reverse lock-out) just grinds as soon as I start letting the clutch out, so I roll forward a couple of feet then it will finally go in in. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

As a temporary solution, put the tranny in 5th or 4th (before driving the car). Then put it in Reverse. Most of the time, this helps.

check the condition of the shift cable ends. most are like this, normally shifting into a low gear first then reverse and it should be smooth.

if this is after you start the car make sure you blip the throttle with the clutch out before driving away to help lube all of the gears.

I've actually been having this same problem. Except instead of reverse it's second gear. It's feels almost like the shift cable end is coming off the ball end of the shift tower!?

However I have adjusted the shift cables two times now and it still does it. Although this is only an issue when I'm slamming through the gears at WOT. If I'm smooth and easy (average daily driving) with it no problem.

that sounds like a syncro problem ... nice and easy driving give the syncro time to mesh so you can shift gears, might not have the time when shifting at wot...

I've had this problem lately as well. Usually has to do with the position of the car.. if that makes any sense.

I'll take my foot off the brake, it rolls back a few inches, and pop, right in! Maybe it's all in my head

Well, I might as well join the club... There is a little difficulty getting into reverse for me... If I shift it into reverse like right after I start the car it goes in like butter, but if I wait at all it becomes harder... I can put it in first first (LOL), then shift into reverse and it will go in like butter...

This does not matter how long I have been driving the car either, unlike in the cold mornings where I can barely shift into first or second from neutral when the car is rolling... I have to double clutch to avoid my second gear synchro from grinding, but whenever I try to get it into second after going into neutral it is like somthing completely blocks it untill the RPMS drop below 2000... I can double clutch above 2000 RPMS after I have driven for a while though...

The one thing I like about winter..

is how good the car feels again when summer comes
