I am about to enter into the much talked about world of 3 liters. OK so im building a 98.5 SVT and have decided to go with a 3L.

I am pretty certain i will be obtaining a 04-05 taurus motor. From here I have about 50,000,000 questions. I've read through the forums over the years and recently ive read through the current thoughts on 3.0L builds. I still have questions tho and i was hoping to use the knowledge of those who still frequent this site.

I would like to build the best motor for the least money. Simply stated. But I am willing to spend money where i feel it is justified. So my questions to the forum are as follows:

How much benefit is there to modding the engine vs. leaving a full 3L as it was in the taurus?

The car will see a dyno for tuning upon completion.

I will most likely add headers now, cat-back might come now, or later.

Next question:

If i start adding 2.5L svt parts what parts and what gains are found from doing this?

thanks,

a straight 3L(whole motor out of a taurus or escape) will still need some modifications. it is the cheapest way to go if you plan to do it yourself. depending on how old your car is, i'd say wait and use the 2.5 till it starts to fail you.

am surprised you didnt find the answer to this question in your search. its a common question with common answers. not much gains are realized from svt parts believe it or not. using svt parts will take away from your cheap straight 3L build. what you will then be building will be a hybrid. The only svt parts that increase power are the intakes and cams which give you power up top. other than that, not much difference. most 3l builds regardless of combinations get just about the same numbers...+/-10hp.

blackcoog has a full 3l port matched and he is putting down ~220hp and the last full 3L was ~199hp so i would have to say there is a difference in the port match vs full 3L

blackcoog 00 port matched 3L

even timeless420 CSVT portmatched 3L put down 236 hp

here is buckeye's full 3L

here u can go here to see others dyno plots on neco

notice the difference to where the power is delivered? and where the power is at?

I realize there will be some modifications i was more or less trying to avoid tearing into the motor and having to replace bolts and gaskets and getting things machined as these will increase the cost substancially

I've found many answers but i was really looking for clearification.

I just picked up an SVT that spun a rod for next to nothing and i want to drop in a 3.0L, but I'm not looking to sink a ton of money into it since i was just about to begin putting my 68 camaro together. So basically I'm trying to balance the money vs. gains and make a decision on where to fall. If it's only a little more money and time to get a substancial gain i will do it, otherwise id prefer just to build on the cheaper side and save my money for a real horsepower car.

My daily driver has been a 98.5 SVT since 2003 and ive done a lot of work on it (IE new trans w/ torsen, new suspension, paint, ...) I plan on runing the 2.5 until it dies. I'm building this new car because I love SVTs and i found a great deal on one that i can throw a 3.0L in.

Currently I'm thinking full 3.0L with MSDS headers and a full exhaust. that should be around 200whp or so from what I've read. i guess im giving the oportunity for someone else to talk me into more.

on those dyno charts, i cant see two of them and i forgot my NECO password and i havent gotten the emal yet, i will check them ASAP
