Ran into a couple surprises with this install. Didn't know that certain svt year exhaust are not a direct bolt on to certain other year tours due to gas tank changes. Here it goes.

Two shots of SVT exhaust rubbing gas tank.

Thanks to Reebs with helping me out with this. Reebs went out of his way to help me get this thing installed and his buddies at the exhaust shop really took good care of me.
Exhaust sounds sweet. Has optimized y too.

Dang did that come off my car? Weird you had trouble, I thought the floor pans are identical for SE/SVT's? Which SE is that going on?

i've never heard of there being issues..whether its pre98..post98 zetec or duratec..same w/the cougars. under belly is identical
***(save for the rear psg side mount, and the mufflers being to far apart on the cougar)

No, I just picked up a 2000 SE. The SVT exhaust came off one of Reebs' cars but I'm not sure what year it was. I think it was a 98. Maybe he'll confirm that. I did use your optimized y though. And the SVT struts you gave my brother. I should get some pics of the car up too.

This topic has been covered 2 billion times. At least it worked out for you, though.

That's funny because a few people besides myself have now said that they have never heard of this issue. But yeah it did work out and I'm happy about it.

Zorrex is right - it's been discussed a lot , for many years now . It's an easy fix though , as you found out .
One more time:
98 SVT exhaust fits 95-(early)98 Contours/Mystiques
98.5+ SVT exhaust fits all years Contour/Mystique

What exactly is different about the SVT exhaust over SE exhuast ? resanator, and different mufflers ? Cat ? Ypipe ?

if that's SVT exhaust, why doesn't it Y, or look like it's been deleted ? that muffler's pretty nice, wouldn't fit on the svt's cut out's.... ?

svt is 2.25" from the cat inlet pipe all the way to were it y's. were it turns into 2". oddly enough the resonators are the same(2" inlet and outlet) on all contours:blackeye:

 i had never heard about that fitment issue before...glad you got that taken care of .....reminds me of "....challenger, go at throttle up..."

Reviving thread because I am putting a '99 SVT exhaust on my brother's '98 SVT. Looks like it will work based on what is said here..... thanks again for the info guys.

Good for newbe's to see this also.

I think this is incorrect. From what I understand, E1 exhaust fits all years, E0 exhaust fits only early 98...

I had an E0 exhaust on my '95 and I currently have a 2000 svt exhaust on it..... so E0 does fit on older cars

Believe me , it is 100% true , Zorrex . I know what I'm talking about .
I thought my earlier post was short & direct , but I'll put it another way for ya ...

If you have a 98.5 and newer Contour/Mystique , you CANNOT use an E0 CSVT exhaust on it without modification . That E0 CSVT exhaust will ONLY fit '95 up to early '98 cars . The early CSVT exhaust WILL foul the gas tank on '98.5 and newer cars .

Like I said before , if you have an E1 ('98.5+) CSVT exhaust , it will fit ALL YEARS of Contour/Mystique .

Damn, you guys are right. I was going back and reading some older posts. I had done some research before I bought my SVT exhaust a while back.
