So this is the second time this has happened to me. My friend had it happen five times in his Focus.

I was warming my car up before I left work today, and when I went to leave, the doors were locked. While running the doors just lock by themselves. I had this happen before but I was at home at the time. Same thing. Had the car running to warm up. Anybody else have this happen or know of a fix? Service writer at the local stealership said they get alot of complaints from Focus owners that have the same problem.

my 95 se did that to me right after i had bought it back in 01...started it up and hopped out to squeegee the morning dew off the windows....soon as i closed the door i heard the lock activate....thankfully i left the drivers windows cracked just a bit and eventually i was able to use a piece of wire (drop ceiling wire, coat hanger too flimsy) to hit the button and get the door unlocked ...learned to let down the driver window or never leave th engine running like that...also, started carrying the spare key in my wallet just in case

those locks would activate pretty consistently but not every time:shrug:

if I am leaving my car running I always leave the drivers window part way open. This is only if I stay in site of the car. In bad snow storms where I go back into my apartment I will lock the doors but I use my spare keys to get back in.

never had the doors lock themselves.

I don't think it's common, but it did happen to my wife once while warming up the Taurus and scraping the windows. Closed the door, and heard the locks activate, spare key in purse on front seat. :( Had to call AAA to unlock it.

I really doubt she accidentally bumped the door lock button as her Taurus has a feature where if you try to lock the doors with the power lock button while the key is in the ignition, the drivers door will pop back up and unlock - apparently to prevent what happened anyway.

Sounds to me like part of the passive alarm system. There should be a button under the dash on the drivers side. With the car running you can change this function.

I think its just bad luck, that our you are into the habit of locking your car on the way out, that you hit the button and locked yourself out. I've locked my car in the garage while working on it that way. except I dont lock the keys in with the car running. :nonono:
