Like it says, yesterday went to start my 2000 SVT and it stumbled a couple of times and died.

From all the posts I've read, that sounds like a flooded engine, which I've had happen once a couple of months ago. So I cranked it with my foot to the floor for 30+ seconds, no luck. I do hear the fuel pump whir a little bit when I turn the key to On.

Then I read all the posts about washed out cylinders, so I took out the 3 front plugs (they did smell like gas but were not wet) and put a teaspoon of oil down each cylinder, no luck. I also cleaned out the IAC valve while doing the teaspoon of oil.

I don't know what else to do, I'm about to call a tow truck. Anything else I should check?

When you hold the gas pedal to the floor it actually shuts off the injectors.

hearing the fuel pump whir isn't a good way of confirming it's still working. Get a fuel pressure guage and check it.

Check the fuel filter as well.

The easiest way to check if its a fuel pump is to get a second person and some starting fluid.
Unhook the intake tubing so you're at the throttle body, spray starting fluid in it while the other person is trying to start it; if it starts with the starting fluid but dies as soon as you stop spraying it in..............it's your fuel pump.

Well I gave up and called the tow truck.  :help: I could probably figure it out if I had enough time but with job, kids, etc., it's just easier. I don't have a fuel pressure guage and I can't even find the Schrader valve.

69Boss302: Right, and that's why you do that when it is flooded. I didn't explain that very well. What I meant to say is, a couple of months ago it wouldn't start after stumbing, so I held the pedal down and cranked for 15 secs or so and it started. This time that didn't make a difference.

Oh well, thanks for the replies.

hopefully not a tow to a junkyard. :help: Good luck with the repair though.

Here's where the fuel pressure guage goes.

Fuel delivery system would be a more accurate statement. It might not be the pump. Could be the filter. Could be the fuel pressure regulator.

unless ur lines or filter got clogged, the delivery's fine. is it a habit of urs to drive on very low tank levels? Pressure regulators are cheap. 30bucks even from Ford(bill jenkins that is). if u say u hear ur pump, then that eliminates it. get that fuel pressure guage, screw it on and see what its reading. if its within the normal range which is like 42/44psi or sumthn(someone correct me if i got it wrong), then ur regulator could be the next culprit. if u wanna start off cheap, do as was suggested earlier about the starter fluid. u really don't need anotha person. spray it into the throttle body, walk over into the car and start it. like it was said, if it starts up, its ur pump.

UPDATE: Dealership called to say after charging up the battery (I ran it down from all the cranking) it fired right up.

I think the sock is really clogged up. The car was parked on my driveway on a slight grade and the tank was around 1/4 left. It does the stumbling thing when accelerating hard off of a corner with 1/4 or less in the tank, but never had trouble starting.

They are doing some final checks, but that will probably be it. I'll keep it above 1/2 tank and clean out the sock when I get a chance. Or do you remove the sock altogether? I'll do some searching if no one knows off hand.
