Dimmer switches too much info, but....

i`ll wait for the kit.. is there anyway you can just sell me the whole thing with a blue led soldered in?

Sorry, I was thinking about that but then with an LED you have to do a resister too and I don't think there is room in that area for it. I also thought about seeing if I could find another source for the bulbs and possibly doing another color, but I think they have just a colored cover on them like the clock light and one could just change that. I don't think I want to order several colors of covers when the 99 switches themselves are slim pickens to start with. I just don't think it would be cost effective and I really don't do this to make much on them. I just cover expensives and shipping and an extra couple of bucks for my tinkering time soldering in the lights. I'll be glad to sell you the kit without a light in it and you can add one to it.

To me the most important thing is just to get the info out to fellow CEG'rs.

AF, an LED and resistor does fit. i did it on my 97 when i was converting everything to LEDs. in my case its not worth it anymore becuase with the LEDs the dimmer switch doesnt do anything anyways.

Well there you go, good to know it fits and then if your doing that who cares you don't need it.... Thanks.

So LED's can't be dimmed????

They don't change much when dimming down the switch. Because of the size of the LED (5 mm) and it's brightness, I went over it a lot with a black Sharpie marker. That really dulled it down to even up the light output through out the interior. I did the same with the defrost switch and indicator light.

I was going to do this because I noticed my clock is really bright and I have a faint rectangle around the numbers. Did you just cover the entire surface with sharpie?

fwiw:

There are LEDs with BUILT-IN resistors for package placement.

You can't (traditionally) dim a resistor. you can PULSE an led at a set phase to give the appearance of a dimmer light, or pulse it at a higher than max rated current for MORE light.

that would be a pretty slick thing to use as the (on/off) switch for a starter kill... Use that to shut off the ecu or fuel pump curcuit.

Good find though Ill keep it in mind for future add ons. lol

I don't have traction control, but I don't like blank spaces either so I put the switch in the hole. Now I was wondering if something like that could be used that way. The problem with the dimmer switch is the dash lights would have to be on bright all the time...... unless one could have it go to a relay that caused to to work in reverse where being open caused the relay to close..... hmmm I know that can be done, but if I was able to use the TC switch then I could still have all my dimmer functions

Problem is the TC switch is just a momentary switch.. oh well I bet that can be done too I just don't know how....

Damm now I'm thinking again! Quit it!
