Ok here's the story. My son has a 95 Mercury Mystique with a V6. I had it in my garage for another repair & had the battery removed. When I reinstalled the battery the car alarm started going off. Now he hasn't used the alarm in over a year & has since lost both key phobs. We bought this car used almost 2 years ago and have no idea if it is a factory alarm or after market. I need to find a way to disconnect the alarm to be able to start the car. Does anybody know if this model car came from the factory with an alarm? And how do I disconnect it? :help: :help: :help:

I don't think any of these cars came with factory alarms. Won't the alarm shut off when you turn the ignition key to start the car? That's how my aftermarket alarm works.

there where no factory alarms, dealer installed yes ....

try to locate the controll unit and see who made it.

If it happens to be a ford alarm look for the blinking red light indicator, it doubles as the valet switch, press it and it should do a fast double blink, the alarm is not in valet mode and will not activate.

Also if it is a ford alarm and you have keyless entry, the factory remotes control the alarm and you can get them off ebay.

It has to be tied into a powersource somewhere... I know my aftermarket one (Clifford) is tied directly to the positive terminal of the battery... Another place to look is the fuse box, mine has a couple wires going in there...

As far as it shutting of when turning the key, my alarm cuts out the ignition so that does not work, LOL...

Finally got the alarm to go off. I found the control unit under the dash on the drivers side & got the name off the box. It is a "Karr". After searching the internet I was able to locate a owners manual for this system or at least one very similar.

After going over the manual the alarm was able to be put into vallet mode & disabled by putting the ignition into the on posiiton, pressing the override switch in the dash next to the steering wheel & flipping the toggle on the back of the indicator light mounted on the bottom of the dash. This put the system into vallet mode & then the system was disabled after I started the car.

Problem solved, at least this one for now.

Thanks for everyones replies.
