T-Stat Location

Where is the T-Stat housing on a 1995 Countour with a V6 2.5L?

How difficult is it to replace?

Shouldn't be too bad. They're pretty close to the waterpump on the driver side. In that big housing that's part of the coolant hose.

At a minimum, you need to remove the air filter housing and the accordian tube. It is below and behind the accordian tube if you are standing in front of the car. You will have more room if you remove the battery.

Note that if your car is overheating, turn on the heater to full speed. If all you get is cool air, your waterpump is broken and you need to replace that too. If you have an Automatic, you need to remove the battery tray too to get access to the bolts to remove the water pump.

Thanks for your help everyone. As is turns out, I was given bad information from my son on the systems. He had told me he had no heat & the temp gauge didn't move. So I naturally assumed it was the t-stat. As it turns out, he had no heat but the temp guage was pegged out in the red.

After & pulled the battery & was looking for the drain cock to drain the radiator. I noticed what looked like a piece of a belt up around the t-stat housing. Pulled the engine cover & found the water pump belt broken. Checked the water pump to make sure it or the tension pulley were not frozen & replaced the belt. Hopefully no damage to the head or head gskt.
But then onto the new problem. When I reinstalled the battery the car alarm started going off causing the car to not start. My son no longer has the key phobs. Arrrrg. :help:

ps. does this car have a drain cock on the radiator? I never did see one.

Ok new cooling system problem.

After the water pump belt was replaced & the car alarm was disabled. Got the car running but noticed the temp guage was staying pegged out on Hot even with the car off.

Is this most likely a sensor problem or could there be another issue  . All suggestions welcome. :help:

Probably is the temp sensor which is mounted in the water cross over pipe near the thermostat housing. It is the single wire connector to the left side.

How long was the engine in the red zone?
Check the operation of the fans when you have a chance. Make sure they come on.

if you check out the waterpump and its still good, let the car just idle and listen for cooling fans, they are screwed on my car, i have rigged up a relay to a toggle switch
