if its possiable to drop in a taurus 3.0 v6 duratech with atx into a 95 contour lx with the zetec. and if so what parts would i need besides the engine. Is the tranny i currently have bolt on or do i need a new one if i go with the duratech? the mechanic id have do it is certifed and is a good friend of mine and said he do it for a little above cost and a nights work of drinks. good idea bad idea? possiable or impossiable?

they both use the cd4e tranny. you'd need the wiring harness,ecu,subframe,radiator,axles..and a slew of other things.

they use different CD4E atx's, so you need the correct one, subframe, wiring harness, PCM, etc, etc ,etc... not worth the money

The trans is completely different, it is larger, and will not fit without extensive modification to the body and subframe.

You would have better luck with an Escape engine and trans, but know that the Escape intake manifold may not fit under your hood.

you would have to do the swap like the 2.5 guys do, in a sense. But with a slew of other parts needed, subframe, engine harness, dash harness, pcm, radiator, engine, a contour trans(mtx-75 or cd4e), axles, new cluth or torque converter, clutch ect ect. im doing it with bagged right now  but im getting alot of it free or cheap from a wrecked car. But if you were going to do it all and payfull price for everything and mechanical its deffinitly not worth it. Im getting a great deal and learning alot from this. But in you case just buy and svt and do a swap.

wow didnt think theyred be that much involved but im off tommorow and going junkyarding. so who knows.

The Taurus uses an entirely different trans. The same trans is also used on the Lincoln Continental V8 as well as the auto trans Taurus SHO. Both engines had to be detuned to not destroy the trans.

It is much bigger, and I would be very surprised if you could make it fit a Contour. Surprisingly, the Taurus trans was VERY problematic in the early 90's. When the Contour was introduced, most Ford trans mechanics felt that the Contour trans was the superior trans. It may have been smaller, but it's failure rate during warranty was much less.
