Since trouble seems to be readily knocking on my door, I need some suggestions on how to remove broken exhuast studs.

This is not on a contour, but on a 99' VW New Beetle with the ****ty 2.slow engine. Lucky for me(sarcasm), the exhaust manifold is on the firewall side of the engine and the 4/6 bolts that snapped are on the plate that connects the header to the down pipe.

I went to Sears and bought a Craftsmen stud extractor for $25 to find that the studs aren't long enough to catch to take them out.

I've doused them with PB blaster and have tried everything I can think of to get them out, but have not had any luck.

Please help!

Heat. Lots of it. Preferably an O/A setup to get it nice hot, then some vice grips one broken studs.

If that doesn't work, then drill and tap.
