well, i've had the mustang on the road for not even a day. i decided to take the thruway back home today(slightly longer route, but very dry roads). i thought the speed limit was 60, so im going 62. cop flicks his lights. apparently the speed limit turned to 50 about 1/8 mile before i got on. so not only did he get me for speeding, he also got me for having ice on my rear window where my temp tag was. the license plate was clearly visible, i couldnt believe he wrote me up a ticket for that!!!! so now two weeks from now, i'll have to pay a $350 ticket. think i should fight the license plate ticket?

the license plate paper is a load of crap, but you were going over the speed limit, ignorance is not an excuse, the speed limit is posted.

I fight everything even if I think I'm guilty. Always a chance of the cop pulling a no show. A lawyer will get you out of the plate but it will be more to pay him most likely.

i drive to and from buffalo at least twice a month. it is 60 and 65 the entire way on I-90. it just so happens the 2 mile stretch from school to my apartment is 50. i was unaware of this.

(i know im about to get flamed for this story but oh well)
late November i got 2 tickets like you did. mine were 25 over in a 70, thats 95(3points, 150) and the other was because i didnt use my turn signal when i changed lanes (2points, 120). that amounts to my fist ticket being 270 dollars and 5points. I got a pre-hearing which was just like 2 weeks ago. I dressed up nice (wore a suit and tie) and arrived early as one does. I really didnt even fight the guy at all. He asked me how old i was, then something along the lines of "you have a clean record right now, so i guess your here to keep it that way". I was very polite (yes sir and such as he wasnt a judge). He dismissed my failure to signal completely an "lowered"(for lack of a better word) my speeding ticket. He gave me 2 tickets for DOUBLE PARKING instead. They carry no points and my insurance wont even see any of it. They cost me 300 instead of 270 but 0 points and my record is still perfectly clean.

So atleast go to court and try, to get it changed in your favor.

Always see the judge. Most of the time if your driving record is pretty good they will reduce it. I'm sure the judge will throw the ice ticket out if you own up to the speeding without whining.

i've had my ohio license for one day and already have points on it. im thinking the judge might not be too nice to me

$350 ticket? holy hell!

I got nailed for 20 over before I turned 18.. plead no contest and scheduled a pre trail.. took a $200 driving class and ended up getting no points on my license

That offense is stupid as hell, i can't see the cop showing up to court. Fight it.

does anyone in ohio know if you can take a driving class if it's your first offense?

I took the driving class when I got my DUI, I guess drinking and driving is illegal in Ohio, who knew!

anyways, you take the class and you get a 2 point credit. You can not use the 2 point credit until you reach 12 points. So basically if I ever get to 12 points the credit will drop you down to 10 so you dont lose your license.

Maybe if you would have unbuttoned your shirt a little and offered 'favors' he would have taken it easy on you???

And we don't always see them. And you wonder why ppl hate you. Weren't you whining not too long ago about tickets?

nope, I accepted responsibility for the speeding tickets, I wondered if there was a way I could get less expensive car insurance, such as taking a defensive driving class or something.

Nope, every ticket I have gotten was due to my own stupidity.

and I appreciate the bluntness, thank you.

yes, you can take a remedial driving course and take points off your record...and i agree with the advise given, always go to court chances are you can talk to the prosecutor and cut a deal yourself the day of your arraignment, but you need to corner a prosecutor beforehand...don't worry they are usually happy to dispose of a case without going to trial :)

at leastgive it a try...if you can't get to a prosecutor at arraignment, plead "not guilty" and then talk to one the day ofyour trial...and if you are lucky, the officer won't show up, or like i said before the prosecutor may want to work something out...

most people are just to intimidated by the system to try it...

give it a shot, it costs you nothing but time

I don't know about the law and rules in Ohio, but I got my first ticket in a speed trap in Texas coming home from Texas Motor Speedway and I got written up as 84 in a 55 (29 over) I know that I had been going over 90. I got a lawyer, paid him $100, never had to talk to the judge, and he got me down to $100 fine and 90 days probation. In October 2006, I got another ticket for going 63 in a 45 in the Jetta. (Funny story though- they didn't bother pulling me over when I got lasered doing 78 in a 45 on the same road. Go figure.) I was offered when they called deferred adjudication. Basically my $265 ticket became a $100 fine, and I had to take a defensive driving class which cost $25. You need to just research your options, figure out if any kind of probation is available (my personal favorite) and decide which course of action to take. Google "speeding tickets" or such and your area and see if there are any info on your options.
