I just dropped my auto trans, could not get the left half shaft off. The right one popped out with a slight pull. But the left one is VERY stubborn, pry bars and slide hammers have no effect.

Am I missing something?

Help!!!!!!!

if you have the right one out , look inside the hole where the right axle came out and you can see the left axle , knock it out from there with a long screwdriver or a prybar

Thanks for the info, but no dice

I tried to use a thin long screwdriver to knock it out from the right side, but it won't budge.

Any other ideas?

yeah, use a huge pry bar, that doesn't bend much when you push on it. stick it between the axle and the tranny. but instead of continuously pussing on the bar, apply a fast, strong and consentrated pressure (like hitting it). this will cause the little ring on the end of the axle to pry off. at least that's how i did mine (it was a manual tranny though). try not to damage the tranny, as i think it has an aluminum case...same goes for your axle boots.

Thanks I got it

This morning after a good night's rest, I rolled the trans over onto its right side, grabbed the same pry bar that refused to work last night and the left half shaft immediately popped out. Maybe I was too pooped to pop it last night.

Sheesh

Tore the trans apart, everything looks good but the end of the 2nd 4th band was broken off. Whahoo an easy fix. Off to the shop to get the parts to fix. If I was a really cheap person (and I am) I would replace the band and neccessary gaskets and slap it back together. Wonder if I should use new trans fluid? ;^P
