so today i brought my car in the shop and showed my teacher how the need goes all the way up to the L in normal. so we hooked a scan tool to it, and the coolant temp was only about 220 degress and the fans kicked on at that point.

so my teacher thinks that my gauge is just off, but when i get on it, it goes all the way through the red... could there be any other possibilites? and i had the sensor replaced a month ago.

did you ever bother to replace the water pump yet? if you did did you flush the system? have you check the upper radiator hose for flow?

cooling fans should kick on at 212 and cool to 190, if you have a stock thermostat ...

220 is way to hot, the high speed fans should be running by that point ...

The whole time I thought the overheating problem was fixed. I guess it just went ignored instead.

That was smart.

Anything higher than R and M on NORMAL should be looked at if it happens on a regular basis.

good call brian. happened to me b4. feel ur top radiator hose. chances are its burning up even tho the motor's warm to the touch. ended up being my thermostat. it was stuck open.

the radiator hoses are fine, but i have a feeling it could be the water pump.

2 days ago there was a buzzing sound when the fans came on that happend two or three times and it hasnt done it again....

so i definetly should change mine soon.

well if that's gonna make you feel any better, i had a problem with my needle going to the "A" of NORMAL, almost everytime i was in traffic. Replaced the water pump, flushed the system, installed a cooler thermostat, replaced the sensor sending the signal to the temp needle, and the coolant sensor located under the TB, and i also replaced the little switch/sensor located on the fans' housing at the bottom left corner...whatever it was called, and i got to tell ya...that need is still going up. maybe not that often, but in bad traffic, i see it going up to the "A", the good thing is that at some point it does fall down again, so at least i don't have to run my A/C everytime that happens... sucks

Check the temp sensor, too. If the fans aren't getting the right signal, they'll just sit there, and they're a lot less effective when they're not spinning.

This particular one is an Airtex from Rock Auto. Part number is 5S1513, cost is $13.54. The failure of this part is one quick way to overheat your car.

Had to replace that little putz twice on the SE. How quickly can you change it when there is coolant flowing out?

dunno about you, but i only lost a little coolant. i stuck my finger in there to stop it leaking out after i removed the unit. but yeah...it comes out fast, doesn't it :)

Depends on your tolerance for hot coolant on your hands. However, if you work with a cold car, this gets easier. :D

How's the radiator look? Could be clogged or full of debris. I had severely corroded fins (on my Dodge Lancer), and the car would overheat if in traffic/hot day. I tried to hose out the "dirt" and out came the fins..

radiator is fine, im going to change the waterpump soon and see if that helps.

if not replace the sensor again, and if that doesnt work ill either check back in here or get a pro to look at it,

i got laid off for the winter from Acura so im looking for a new job right now.
