I haven't seen any talks of the 06 Dtec 30 yet. Are they an improvement over the 05's? I've found some for not that much more than an older Taurus or Sable. So with the added goodness of less labor and a newer motor, it should be worth the $200 difference.

I'm thinking that I will replace the motor in the wrecked car because there was some slight visible damge to the motor. And because I'm not sure how long the motor ran with metal chunks in the engine, I'd rather not find out that there was damge to it later and just replace it instead.

Your thoughts please...

terry haines actually used the 05+ 3.0 with direct injection, it was some hack to the fuel system, I remember reading a thread on it a while back.

If you want to learn more, go check out FCO and PM terry haines.

I never saw him. oh well.

Back to the motor.... thoughts on using an 06? Were there any problems to look out for during production runs like the sand issue?

The 2006MY Escape and Tribute engines now have the water pump drive on the LH exhaust cam like the Mazda6 and Fusion. It used to be on the LH intake cam. If you try to use these heads, you may or may not have packaging issues. 2007-2008MY is carryover due to the new 2009 3.0L PI (power improved)

Further note: The change was made in the middle of the 2006 model year so be careful.
