Just thinking about doing a 3L Swap in the future and was trying to price everything.

My question to all of you guys with 3L... How much did you spend on your complete 3L Swap?

Please, Give details on what you type of swap you did. (Full, Hybrid, etc...)
Also, please mention if you included anything else like a new clutch while the engine was out and what not.

Thanks

_Ben

3L with SVT intakes and cams. (hybrid port is what i call it)

2003 taurus 3L block. 42k on it. 400$ picked up myself.

SVT intakes and cams - off my SVT 0$

Buzki (w/e) plates: 20$

LIM gaskets, UIM gaskets: 50$ approx.

EXH manifold gaskets: 25$ approx

EGR gasket 5$ approx

Timing cover and Valve cover gasket kits: 75$ approx

i'm sitting at about 600$ on the engine and etc.

however i bought a lot of other fluids and such too.

PS fluid
Antifreeze
Oil
Filter
Tranny fluid

Bits for porting!
Serpentine belt for AC delete

thats about it. other than a few bolts. total cost was around 1500 after every nickel and dime was figured out.

after driving to michigan and picking the blown up car back to MN, i'm sitting at about 2200$

i sold alot of the scrap aluminum and the nitrous kit, so i saved about 600$ there. if you planned it right, you could sell your 2.5L (if running) and wave the cost of the 3L longblock.

also my engine came with an updated water pump. i had a spec stage3 i reused with about 22k on it. i had headers and a full exhaust. i rebuilt the axles with new grease and straps on the boots. i had new ball joints (bolt on!) which you might want to buy too. i got 25$ apiece ones from autozone that are greaseable. they are bolt on, but that is nice when you are pulling everything apart i'll tell you what!

Hmmmmmm

Whatever figure you end up on, double it. You'll spend a :censored::censored::censored::censored:load more on parts runs, tools, gaskets, misc. stuff.

I've got about $1,000 in it so far and about another $500+ to go on just finishing the motor itself. Then figure another $1000 for rebuilding the transmission and getting a new flywheel and clutch.

Money spent so far includes:

3.0 - $500
Gas to go get new motor - ~$100
Engine hoist and stand - ~$300
Junkyard parts and new tools - $100 - $200

Things left to get just for the motor

Serpentine Belt
Waterpump belt
Waterpump gasket
160F Thermostat
Coolant temp sensor
Coolant temp sender
Cam sensor
EGR Valve
EGR valve gasket
O2 sensors
Crankshaft sensor
UIM/LIM gasket
Fuel pressure regulator
fuel injector O rings
Spark plugs
Plug wires
TTY crank bolt
2.5L oil pick-up tube
2.5 oil dip stick
Idler pulley
Pulley tensioner
Timing cover gasket
Crank seal

yes, I will be using the SVT UIM, LIM, HIM, HER, Fuel rail, injectors and airbox.

Forgot about the Bugzuki plates too for mounting the LIM. Those are excellent to use when it comes time to port the block to accept the SVT fuel injectors.

EDIT: The only reason why I am replacing every sensor is for peace of mind. It's been about 2 years since this car has ran and is 160,000 miles rough. It's not needed if yours is on the road already and without problems.

A grand into the trans and probably another 1200 into the motor and swap.

It got more expensive when I had to re-pull the motor, buying 100s of dollars worth of fluids twice adds up.

yea...I did not think about fluids...that would jack up the price pretty good.

and would you say throw a clutch in it while the motor is out too?

HAHA...ya right
so i will most likely be putting a clutch in when i do it...

Yah, Its kind of like a snowball effect at the point where your saying
"i might as well while its out." It would be stupid not too. Will save you alot of probloms down the road ect.
