Strange sound

There is a strange kind of buzzy/clicky sound that resonates from my engine during a cold start. Once the engine rpm rise above 2.5k, the sound goes away. And once the engine has reached normal operating temp, the sound goes away for good. I started it and listened for its origin, and it seems to be coming from the fuel-rail/injector area. Any ideas as to what may cause this? It is fairly loud from inside and outside the car, and again, it goes away completely after 2.5K rpm or once the engine is warm. Sorry, no way to post a sound clip. Thanks in advance.

Ryan, I think I mentioned this in one of your other posts about the cold start noise you're getting. When you said it sounds sort of like a diesel truck. I said that it could be the injector-tick that some people have had. I don't know if it's a return/returnless issue, or which cars were more prone to having it, but that could be it. You might search the old forums in troubleshooting, and Duratec Mainenance, and see if you can find anything about injector tick.

Yeah I took your last reply into consideratioin, and didn't rule it out. But from the searches I've done, injector tick is constant regardless of engine temp or rpm. I just wanted to post it again since I had, in fact, listened and narrowed it down to the exact area you spoke of. It just seems very suspicious to me.

..., injector tick is constant regardless of engine temp or rpm....
Actually, no. I think it is more pronounced when cold and at low rpm. At high RPMs, you cannot tell the distinct tick, tick, tick and it becomes a hiss or leaky exhaust sound.

Edit. If the tick is due to a leaky exhaust or intake manifold gasket, sometimes they will disappear when warmed up due the exhaust or intake expanding and "sealing" the leak.
