i do not have the ford cd either, so i cant look it up

any help is much appreciated!

What I've done that works alright is to pop that red plastic piece out and have a friend move the shifter in the direction that you don't think you had enough slack before. Then pop the plastic piece back in and try it out. I just use a trial and error method until it shifts well through all the gears.

To pop the red piece out just carefully pry on the ears on either side with a screw driver (switch off between sides if its stubborn) until it pops out far enough to adjust the cable.

I think Ford uses some special tool when they do it though.

yea its a rotunda tool. it centers the shifter so it doesnt take 2 people to adjust the ends. i just press the orange pieces in and then have someone hold the shifter in the middle, and release the orange buttons.

i used the two person method. took a few tries and i think im at the maximum adjustment or something but it worked out nicely.

i had to adjust after installing my B&M knockoff shifter. works pretty good now!

glad to hear! ive done it so many times on mine. doesnt help that ive pulled the motor 9 times in a year and a half.

yes and no. i just find it easier to fix a problem with the motor or tranny to just pull it if its going to be a hassel. thanks beans, oh by the way when are you going to give me your tranny to rebuild it?

I'm pretty sure that the ends are still available, however many dealers will tell you you need to replace the entire cable assembly as the catalog is hard to read. Check with Bill Jenkins at Team Ford.

For some more insight on the cable ends, go to the old forums and find my old thread "It finally hapened" Please note that I misspelled "happened".

Thank you Jim

wtf its not that hard. it only takes a half an hour

You must have six arms to be able to do it in 1/2 an hour, considering to just remove the old one took me and hour.

Unless of course in your time space continuum a 1/2 hour = 2 1/2 hours

take off CIA, undo tranny mount, press orange buttons in, pull off ends, put new ones on, install in reverse order. you get quicker the more you work on it. i think all you need is a flat head, a 15mm, a 17mm or a 18mm, an extension and a 1/2" ratchet IIRC
