SNOW DAY!!!

The Contour remains far and away my favorite FWD car to drive in the snow.

They finally got around to plowing my neighborhood, well after everyone's gotten home from work.

get used to that. They don't do a thorough plow until the storm has pretty much ended.
The main roads need attention first.

how come my car SUCKS on the snow? today driving to school my car had a problem pulling out onto the road because it was stopped on ice. i had to floor it for it to move, the tires were just spinning in place. do i have bad tires? or does my car just hate me?

tires tend to spin when snow is involved  but you can always get some snow tires to help! i run snowtires and my svt is a tank in the snow

ice in an equalizer, no car is going to get moving on ice easily unless you have studded snow/ice tires.

I am willing to bet your tires are fine, but I hold that cheap tires suck no matter what

ughh i miss my Subaru now that it is winter. my car also handles AWFUL i keep almost spinning out of control when i turn. I'm not that great of a driver soo i can't control it very well.

eh, ya just gotta take it easy on the ice i guess...ice is brutal...what you want to do is find an empty parking lot that is full of ice/snow and go have some fun...you'll learn the limits of the car and not have to worry about hitting anything :)

Compared to a Subaru any FWD car will feel like crap. My parents have had 3 and I love driving them in snow.
You need to take it slow -- go *very* slow on the gas pedal. Spinning the tires gets you no traction and is a great way to waste fuel.

The tires make a huge difference of course - quality, tread (very important), and type of tire.

Have you ever seen the movie Cars? "Turn right to go left ... yeah right old timer!" I often slide around a corner :D and then turn the wheels to compensate. That way you don't spin out.
If you are traveling forward and do start to slide, you can point your tires in the right direction and blip the throttle a bit instead of stomping on the brakes. Since it's a FWD car, the tires will spin toward where you want to go.

If you can find a disused parking lot, I'm sure you can practice some and get used to how your new car feels in the snow. There's no denying that AWD is better (I'm a Subaru fan myself), but the Contour is a great car in the snow compared to many other FWD vehicles.

Be thankful now that you didn't get a RWD Volvo wagon :)

Matt has this nailed. Linds, I'll take you out to the ELHS parking lot next time it snows. There are NO light poles at all so you can't hit ANYTHING. This way you can get some test driving done in snow. I'll drive there, of course :).

I had a snow day as well, but not from work :(

I was rockin the mini-van at work..im waiting for my winter rims to arrive from tire rack

holy ish!!
i was just thinking about you this morning and was going to give you a call tonight.
where the heck have you been?

He thinks he's too good for us now. :blackeye:

lol aww come on now Kim..my post whoring days are pretty much over..I really have no time anymore. School in the morning, and work the rest of the time. Everything has been fine though. Im also pretty close to opening up a franchise and sort of start a business. I figured im not going to get anywhere working for an employer and I really have high ambitions. So we'll see how that pans out, other then that im still here, lurking around :)

Good luck with the new business. Sounds pretty cool.

I'm curious too .. what industry are you going into?

You're destined for success no matter what it is :)
