so, i've done two prior ATX engine/transmission remove/re-installs. Now my brother and i are trying to put a new clutch into a '95 SE MTX. We have encountered a few problems...

1. The driver's side halfshaft won't budge. Is it supposed to be that much harder to get out than the ATXs ?

2. The shift linkage on a 95 must be different than on subsequent years because it is a true linkage, not one with cables, etc...where does that get disconnected ?

3. right side motor mounts and an odd looking brace are totally different than the ATXs and i wonder how much of that get disconnected ?

I have a Ford cd but not for the 95 and i will order one today, but tin the mean time, i'm looking for tips...

The driveshaft is going to be tough to pull out especially if it's never been done before. Just take your time and get as much leverage on it as you can...

IIRC there is a bolt near the transmission that will disconnect the linkage... Don't quote me on that, but from what I remember of the 95, that is true.

Should be pretty similar to removing an atx, remove the motor mounts and pull the engine out...

Hopefully this helps some...

ok, i saw the bolt near the transmission and it looked like i would diconnect by just loosening one bolt, so i'll try that. The right side motormount looks really wierd. Should i just take out the center bolt ? Even so, there is still another bracket that connects to the transmission and then a rod runs back towards the shift tower.

IDK the bracket has about half a dozen bolts going everywhich way, even looks like it can be adjusted... just wonder how it comes apart ?

How about pounding the half shaft out from the other side ?

For the right side (I'm assuming you mean the passenger side mount), I believe you can just remove the one big bolt...

You want to remove the bolt on the rod that controls the shifter closest to the transmission. Since you have a 95 you have what's called the "rod shifter"....

And, you're going to want to search this, but I believe you can pound out the driveshaft from the other side. Just be careful not to damage anything inside of the transmission.

the mount i'm talking about is the the one by the firewall, right by the shift linkage...

i'll search the halfshaft issue...

at the end of the rod that actually enters the trans there is a small bolt. undo that and the rest of the shift linkage should slide off. mine wouldnt budge so i had to remove the whole shift linkage from the car with the trans. that required me to remove the engine and trans separately with the trans having to go under the subframe.

for the axle i had to go from the opposite side and punch it out. i wasnt worried about the screw driver slipping and doing any damage to the diff as i was installing a Torsen anyways.

i believe the mount you are talking about is the rear roll resistor, its under the car behind the trans? once the engine is supported remove the whole mount from the car. the shift lever support rod (the second rod going towards the trans) is actually bolted to the same bracket that holds the roll resistor. it comes off with one nut and then slides off the stud. if you cant get the shift lever off its a real PITA to remove.
