Car stalls when it shifts into 3rd

Ok, i have a 1995 contour 4 cyl. Just recently it has been having alot of problems...such as shuttering, missing etc... anyhow, after i got most of these straightened out and after it ran ok for a few days, now it is missing again and it stalls the second it shifts to third.
im sure i can figure out the missing, but i cant figure out why it stalls when it shifts into 3rd. there isnt even anything associated with the stalling, it just stalls, no chugging, nothing, its just dead.

Welcome. Manual or Auto tranny. How many miles on the car?

Check for vacuum loss (hissing sound due to cracked or broken hoses).

Scan for Check Engine Light codes (CEL) and post the exact codes 1995 OBDI. You can use a paper clip to get the codes ((or buy a Ford OBDI 1995 or older code reader for $50).

its an auto... no, i dont hear any hissing, and all that comes up with the dignositics is a problem with the EGR...would that stall a car out like this? its so strange how it doesnt even act like its dieing, its like i turned the key off...
the cars odometer doesnt work, id estimate it has just under 200K.

Post your current CEL codes here so we can help you out further. Post all the codes that you are getting. It sounds to me like you need to fix your EGR problem before fixing anything else. Let us know on those codes.

Any other shifting malfeasance? I'm trying to ascertain the possibility of a severe VSS failure.
