I have most of the work done to remove this transaxle. I can't seem to get the rack to separate from the steering column. Once I do that, I can set the subframe out of the way and get the trans out.

I have removed what I thought was the steering column pinch bolt. It was a t-40. I gained access to it from the drivers wheel well. It came out fine but I still cant get the rack sparated from the column...

Please help...

What am I missing? Is there another pinch bolt? Is there a pinch bolt INSIDE the car that I need to remove?

TIA

Did you undo the 10mm bolt under the steering wheel inside the car?! It's at the tripod attachment. That's all you remove. I don't understand what you unbolted.

I unbolted the flex joint. I did not know the "pinch bolt" was inside the car...

I guess that'll do it...

Well, it looks like the dunce that installed this junk yard trans was a complete idiot. The previous owner told me that the trans died 2 years ago and he paid the local yokel $500 to install a good used tranny from a JY. He decided to sell the car when the JY trans started slipping going into reverse...

I obviously bought the car intending to swap out the transmission....

I got the trans out. I noticed 2 things about the installation of the failed trans that was in there...

1. There were no upper bellhousing to block bolts :nonono:

2. The transmission line that comes out of the drivers side of the transmission was used as a lifting point and is almost completely collapsed...I wonder if this had something to do with the fact that the trans stopped working once warmed up.

Anyway...on to my questions...

I'll need a new line and some upper trans bolts...

Does anyone have part numbers for the trans lines? I'm going to replace both of them

What are the specs on the upper trans bolts M? x 1.? x ??mm

Were there any variations of the CD4E in 95 that I need to take into account?

When I went hunting for transmissions, one junk yard told me that there were 3 different versions of the CD4E in 1995 for a 2.0L contour. When I purchased the rebuilt transmission, I was not asked to identify my transmission by the number on the sticker...

I have the sneaking suspiscion that the 3 variations I was told about were 2.0L 2.5L and the Mazda 626 version?
