Thought I'd share this little beast from Australia:

IIRC these were just an overseas Escort with a turbo... Right?

Effectively, yes. It was a Mazda 323 underneath, for all intents and purposes. Our Escort here in the States did not start to share the same bloodline until the redesigned 1991 showed up.

There was a 323 GT for sale around me a short while ago with around 100K on it, I really wanted it... But knew it was a bad idea...

Might not have been the worst idea. Several turbo hatchbacks terrorized the landscape in the '80s (Omni GLH, Isuzu Impulse, etc.), with that being one of them. I don't know what the parts arena is like on those, however, and have a feeling you'd be off hunting in the boneyard if the car coughed up a turbine, etc.

I always kind of liked the way that "Mercury" and "Tracer" were printed on the lower, blacked out corners of the rear glass. I find it funny that it debuted in 1988, three model years before the updated Escort bowed, whereas the Lynx and the Escort had always moved in lockstep.

I'm kind of surprised to find myself in this thread -- even more to have started it.

That rig should be pretty rust free, being in Colorado and all.

Hooray for crank sunroof! Been spoiled with electric jobs such as the Webasto Starlight 4 and the like.

Thats my car ! Thanks, its an awesome car and easly faster then my CSVT on high boost. I will miss it, but I dont need a DD anymore since I got a work car. This car has never failed me. Hope it goes to a good home. -B.

wait wait wait...

the link I posted was ironicially the car that you are selling?!?!

thats redonkulious. I wish I could afford it  I have always loved those things.

Some people put these motors in Ford Fiesta's. With a curb weight of 1800lbs, those cars are insane fast with the 1.6 Miata motor in them. Thanks for all the positive feedback. I posted pic's of my two hatch's a while back. Great car, and with only 115k on the clock on a 20 year old car, its a smoking deal. -B.

FOR CHRIST SAKE IT'S FESTIVA NOT FIESTA!!!

For the record, theres guys with over 170 HP in the 1.6 turbo in their Festivas, and 12.7 is the fastest 1/4 mile IIRC.

What have you done to hit 200HP??

The forgotten "sleepers" are cool to read about, how about that turbo'd Suzuki Swift:cool:

I think in canda you were able to get the swift/metro with a turbo, someone correct me if I am wrong.

I have seen a couple of sleeper geo Metro Verts with build up I3 motors and turbos, they only put down like 150 horses, but they HAUL ASS

HKS Supermega flow filter w/ adapter
Magnecor 8.5mm wires (red)
Custom 2.5" exhaust (looks stock though, sleeper effect, no ricey sound, deep)
Greddy Type-S Blow-off Valve
Probe/MX6 Intercooler (larger than stock)
Samco hoses and some hard pipes. (better flowing than stock)
RX7 fuel pump
Electronics: (performance and other)
Aftermarket Car alarm with two keyfobs (hood pinned as well)
Greddy Profec B-SpecII (boost controller set at 10.5 low, 13.5 high)
Reich Racing ECU (allows you to run more boost)
AutoMeter A/F gauge
AutoMeter Voltmeter
AutoMeter Boost gauge (the Profec B-SpecII has a digital boost gauge built in)

Thats not WHP, thats crank HP, it put down 155WHP at 15psi. My Honda is WHP.
