With the LIM removed what is the best way to clean all the carbon off the port walls and valves?

I'm concerned about the sludge (carbon and carb. Cleaner) ending up in the combustion chamber. (2.5L)

And while I'm at it i may as well stake claim for taking the longest to perform the UIM/LIM cleaning. :-( three weeks and counting.. gotta love when life gets in the way of life.

i would remove all your spark plugs so if cleaner gets down n the cylinder it can air out.

4 cylinders should be closed. find them by shining a flash light down the port and make sure that the valves are uppermost. when you see the 2 cylinders that are open its obvious. after cleaning the 4 closed ones. unplug the coil pack so you don't have you plug wires arching everywhere and turn the key until you get those 2 to close.

i found a tooth brush was the best for this part. i also used a air compressor to blow out the carbon off the valves and out of the port after i cleaned as much as i could.

a tooth brush that has a bend like this was key for me to clean out the heads.

I hooked up a "micro vaccuum" attachment to my shop vac, the kind people use to clean keyboards and such. Then I got a spray bottle of Berryman's B-12, sprayed the crap out of the valves and such, used a small bottle brush to scrub, then sucked as much crud out as I could. Definitly remove the spark plugs, as this will hurt them. Let it air out for a while before you try to start it again. That's what I did.

thats exactaly what i did^^^ i never saw the point in cleaning the uim/lim and leaving the heads all gunked up:shrug:

I pull the uim/lim to clean them, then (after reassembly) suck seafoam in to get the potentially missed spots, but also the head ports. If you manually hold the secondaries open, you can get some in those ports too.
