I need to buy a MTX-75 transmission. As I understand it, ALL Contours regardless of year or engine had a MTX-75 for manual trans. I understand about the rod/cable difference. True or False?

Thanks

almost, there are 4 configurations

first the MTX75 is specific to engine type, the bell housing are different for a car with a Zetec and a Duratec

second you have the pre98 (rod) and post98 (cable) shifter differences.

make sure you get the correct one for your engine/shifter type

If you're just dropping in a used transmission, try to get a 2000 because they have roller bearing shift forks and shift smoother than the older transmissions with brass bushings.
