Okay,so i was playing with the relays on my `98 Contour V6 and the cooling fans stopped turning on .... The car was running and i took them off one by one...i don't know why:rolleyes:. Then i realized that the cooling fans don't come on.When i turn the AC on,the low speed fan comes on.

What could be the problem?

Thanks

Normal fan operation

Normal fan operation

The fans run if:

1. The A/C is on. Low speed unless there is a lot of heat (hot day and engine) then it will cycle low/high.

2 If operating temperature is reached, needle about over the M on the gauge, gives low speed.

I have never seen my cooling fans operate high speed with A/C not in use, they might if car "hot soaked".

All right...still couldn't find the problem!

When i turn the A/C on,the low fan come on immediatelly,if its hot then comes the high fan also. When the car runs for a while and stops, the fan don't work and in 5-6 sec,the low speed kicks again.

I opened the dist. box and checked the yellow(low speed) and black(high speed) relays! Put a wire between Pins 3 and 5! The low speed fan DIDN'T come on,the high speed fan did!

Where the hell could be the problem????

PLEASE,HELP!

...

You have a relay problem. R2 and R5 in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery.

If low speed dead when jumpering 3-5 (in the Green R5 low speed relay), it would be fuse, wiring or resistor. See Fan Topic

R5 Green/R2 Black Low Speed 3 and 5 are the widest terminals
