trust in radar detectors

I have a whistler, $40 at walmart.

Saves me day in and day out. I usually go with the flow of traffic, but low and behold one day (before the whistler) I was in the flow of traffic and switched lanes, and a bear took a photo of me. He only gave me a warning, which is cool, but that night I went and bought a whistler. It lets me know early enough when to slow down, or when to not pass that old lady in the slow lane.

those kinds of radars are fine in certain areas, but places like Ohio, and some spots of Michigan, they wont detect the newer kinds of radars, some of the new radars use direct signal lasers that basically if your radar detector goes off, it means they already have seen you and picked up your speed.

I am probably going to get a radar detector sometime in the near future, just a cheap one for reassurance, but the fastest I ever go on the highway anymore is like 75 and usually thats only because its the flow of traffic.

Yeah I got nailed for a 77 in a 65 when I got the warning. I didnt even see him. I know the whistlers work well here in san antonio, but I guess not all cities have poor undermanned police departments. They wont buy new radar guns, but dang if they dont have a lot of Chargers and tasers. They just bought some vette powered Tahoes too.

Really, the car just drives much better at 50+ than 45. The engine is lugging a bit at 45mph in 5th gear, atleast when there is a slight incline.

time for a tune up maybe i dont know but my car is fine in 5th gear at speeds as low as 30 mph.

I think im gonna go with a V1 when I have the money....

But Listen to yourself. Really speeding when you have a bad record.

I have been suspended for 1 month and it killed me to sit there looking @ my SVT awaiting the day I would drive it again.

I have 15 pnts on my license and am in the SAME ISSUE u are in. Its easy to slow down take it easy.

and take a defensive driving course ti will lower you 2 pnts.

Yeah, not sure. I just put new plugs and wires in less than a 1000 miles ago. Also I cleaned the UIM and LIM within 5,000 miles. The car doesn't like to drive below 2k rpms in 2nd or higher gears, it will start to buck if you go much below 2k unless you slip the clutch to keep load off the engine. When you apply more throttle it goes away. I never really thought much of it, I thought maybe the polyurethane mounts made it feel worse than it really is.

What's involved with the defensive driving course? What will lowering my points by 2 do for me? Does that mean if I get another ticket I won't lose my license?

i hate it, because i can no longer only look for the crown vic headlights haha i mean around me, where it is "smaller" it is still all vics, but not everywhere. In Royal Oak i saw an 07 Tahoe with the factory 20" wheels and stuff, totally unmarked, there were 2 or 3 others that i saw too. THOSE are sneaky as funk, especially out there.

I have an escort Passport SR7 plus shifters and it has worked great! It saved my ass more times than I can count. It has detected radar while I was traveling at twice the legal speed limit and the cop was a mile away after I slowed down to the legal limit.

The shifter is great, and can be added to any escort radar detector. It detects laser use, and sends out a seperate laser signal from the front or rear sensors that confuses laser guns. I love passing cops in a speed trap and watching them shake their laser gun in the air, because they think it is not working right. Little do they know my shifter worked and totally messed them up. It's nice to know that when I drive by a speed trap people are safe from getting ticketed for at least a minute or so. The cop is too busy shaking his gun in the air to catch other people speeding by at the same time I am.

Laser jammers are perfectly legal

The police will catch on eventually - especially when there's only one car on the road and it's the car that's jamming the laser signal.

Radar detectors WON'T help if the cops use instant-on radar on you. This is because they point the radar gun at you and hit the button, got the speed, and you've got a ticket. Your radar detector just picks it up when they hit you, just like laser.

Only good a radar detector does is if the cop leaves the radar on all the time...

If you don't slow down, you're just asking to be hoofing it soon... Oh yeah, my SVT doesn't bog down at 45 in 5th... In fact, I can go 30 in 5th without bogging the engine.

For what it's worth, I run a Cobra that talks in a female voice.

I like it a lot.

April, my girl, and I got off

Just admit it that you like it just cause it's a girl :ponder:

I don't know. I do go over the limit...not ridiculous though. For example, the speed limit on the expressway here is 50mph, so i hover between 55 and 57.

same thing in jersey, speed limit is 65, so i hover around 70.

now i've gone faster than that on several occasions...making a long night time drive to PA i averaged 80mph. But am i willing to spend hundreds of dollars to possibly avoid a ticket for something i was doing wrong?

I've had lots of tickets on my record at one point...there were no speeding tickets though. And it was my fault i got them in the first place. If you're getting busted for speeding, then you should stop speeding. Who cares what the other cars are doing? At the risk of sounding like your mom...if they were all jumping off a bridge, would you jump too? Seriously, it's a weak argument. Don't give the cops a reason to pull you over and they won't. Looking aside from the tickets and the law, if you get pulled over it's cause you're doing something you shouldn't be that is putting yourself or others in danger...doesn't really matter if you are more confident in your driving abilities than the cops are.

As far as the car bogging at 45mph in 5th - then downshift to 4th if it's that bad! lol wtf kinda argument is that!?

So you're just averse to speed limits in general?

I had one of those! The thing would go crazy if I drove by a store that used theft monitoring devices at their doors or if I pulled into the driveway when the microwave was on!

I will say this: In the late Nineties, a buddy of mine had a BEL detector that barked out warnings in a man's voice. Cobra was smart to go with a female in their voice programming. :D

I'm pretty sure it has to be on and "shooting" or else there is nothing fo rit to detect. Check out rocky mountain radar. They have a detector with a scrambler built in and some kind of ticket payment guarantee as well
Are you being serious? There are many articles about how they're scammers and their products don't work at all.

I agree! Not only does the SR7 add shifting capabilities, but the shifters are also better sensors. When you plug it into the 8500, the internal laser sensors are disabled. My shifters are pretty hidden, but when people see them they often think I'm an unmarked car (front wig-wags). One point to keep in mind though. All shifters/jammers are only functional to a maximum of 1000'. If you want to "eat" the laser signal from further away, you should apply "Laser Veil" to the headlight lenses.

Laser jammers are perfectly legal

I dont have a laser jammer. My device simply sends out a seperate set of laser signals once it detects a laser signal in the area. My device does not alter or jam whatever the cop is shooting, it just gives him some laser signals in return.

not at all, but i've never gotten a ticket for speeding in all the years i've been driving...wait, i lied, I got one for 53 in a 35 once. It was a radar gun too...but still, you won't hear me crying about it if i do get a ticket.

i haven't come across a cop that will write you up for doing 5 over the limit.

i guess i just can't justify the cost of one of these things (or even worse, the people who invest $600 in radar/laser jammers) when all i have to do is follow the rules
