try taking off the tumble switch for the headlights and the ill intensity wheel and seeing if there's any burning/discoloration where the wiring harness plugs in.
 
Well, I have half my car torn apart looking for a bad harness. Nothing yet....the dimmer side looks perfectly fine but someone did do something to the headlight knob harness. It looks like as if the harness has been changed before, but I don't know if it is a newer harness or not. What are the old and new part numbers for the harness. ...they should be on the old harness, correct? And the ford dealership closed about 11 min ago....darn it. If the harness or the switch would fail, how can you tell for sure?

Also I saw that the previous owner soddered wires directly to the clock/PATs light because there was no harness. Could I run into any troubles there. They were not on there that good, and some of them came off.....I currently have the battary disconnected, that isn't going to mess up the PATs, is it?

Any advice anyone can give me asap on this, thanks!

I know this may not be the problem, but have you put in a new cd player? I had the same problem with my car, and i had a wire in there wrong. I changed it and never had the problem again.

I put a new one in a day or so after I got the car. About 2 weeks ago I did put another amp in, but I don't think that is the case. No problems until yesterday

Looking at the ford cd, this is what I came up with after going threw the diagnostics. The fuse fails.
CHECK fuse 31 (7.5A). If the fuse is OK, For additional information, refer to «Section 417-02». If the fuse has failed, INSTALL a new fuse. TEST the system for normal operation. If the fuse fails again, CHECK for a short to ground, REPAIR as necessary.
Where in the world would the short to ground be? In the Headlamp switch?

well it was a shot in the dark. I just figured i'd try to help out. I had the same problem. It popped because i had the power antenna wire in the wrong place.
