Help would be greatly appreciated finding this. According to the Haynes manual its located on the firewall behind the coil pack. There is only one illustration and wondering if anyone has encountered this before. My cel read this as the problem.

Look for a green piece of plastic (smaller than a camera film canister) on the passenger side, just lower than the coilpack, and about halfway between the coilpack and the passenger fender. That will lead you to it.

Thanks. I found the green piece ( bleeder) and a hard gray plastic line that drops down and back towards the middle of the car. The rest should be cake, thanks again.

It doesn't.

The only PCM code that would indicate a likely fault with the purge valve would be a P0443.

You're describing the EVAP canister purge valve. It is extraordianarily difficult to access on the V6. Have fun. If you need one, I have a brand new one sitting on the shelf in my garage.

I can't find anything called the "evap control solenoid". There are two solenoid-operated valves in the EVAp systeM: the purge valve already described and the canister vent solenoid. If the electrical circuit for the vent solenoid were open, you'd get a P1451 code. The CV solenoid is mounted directly on the charcoal canister under the rear of the car.

Code: P0443

Code: P0443

Hi, I have this code (P0443) and I'm wondering if it would be not too difficult to fix it myself. What do I need to do? I think I need to check the solenoids but I don't know where they are and how to check them. As I was reading there is one below the fuel tank and another near the manifold (so there are two valves).

Is it difficult to check the solenoids?
How do I check and replace them?
How do I check and replace the valves if they were the problem?

My car is a 4cyl Contour 2000.

Thanks in advance! You're great!

Witht he engine cool, disconnect the purge valve electrical connector (it's the one on the firewall with the green service cap) and measure its resistance. Should be between 30 and 38 ohms. If not, it should be replaced,

If you need one, I have one on the shelf for my 98 2.5 that needs a new home and may work (need to check part number application for your vehicle).

If the coil resistance is okay, check the connector to the valve and make certain it's not damaged or corroded.

Purge Solenoid defective

Purge Solenoid defective

Hi again and thank you for your reply. I tried to test the solenoid today, I didn't remove it, just removed its connector and measured the solenoid resistance with a cheap DMM, I did my best but seems that the solenoid may be broken 'cause the multimeter shows infinite resistance. Wiring seems to be ok, the connector looks a bit sulfated.

I think I need to remove the solenoid/valve to test it again in a more comfortable way and with a better multimeter (at work), and if it is the problem I need to remove it anyway.

Is it possible to remove it without removing the plenum chamber?

Thank you projectSHO89 for offering me your solenoid but actually I'm living outside the USA.

Thanks again for your help!

Don't know how tight it is on the 2.0 to get to the mounting bolts, but on the 2.5, it's extremely tight on space.

Hey, USPS delivers almost anywhere worldwide...

Thanks again for your reply Steve, sorry for not calling you Steve last time, I hope you don't mind (I need to read the full message).

I'm not an experienced mechanic, I've done only the easy ones following some guides and manuals. I think this one is not so hard to do, but I don't know how to remove the hoses from the valve. Do I need special tools to do it?

The dealer usually charges me twice the cost of the parts for labor, so it would be $40 for the part + $80 for labor = $120 USD. And they keep my car for 3 days!

Since the last year I am doing this things myself if I know I can't get them worse.

Sorry for rejecting your offer, but actually I have bad experiences with the USPS and/or its deliveries in my country, and paying a better delivery service would cost the same as buying the part in here. I know your valve will have a new home soon or later and I don't want it to get lost between post offices.

Thank you again for your time and patience.
