Im trying to decide if i want to buy new aftermarket speakers to replace my stock ones. What do you guys think? Did you guys notice a big difference? Bass hi mids, what speakers do you guys recommend? thanks

Yes, even with the stock HU you will notice a difference. Now if you get an after market HU there will be a big difference.

With stock HU the amp is not powerful enough to fully power the aftermarket speakers so they won’t sound as good as possible but will still sound better then stock.

If you're still running the factory head unit I was advise against buying speakers first. You'd be surprised what your factory speakers can sound like with some proper power. Obviously it won't sound as good as a good head unit, powerful amp, and quality speakers, but I always say do the head unit first.

I highly disagree. The stockers on these cars are crap and can easily blow. I went with speakers first, HU second, and I don't regret it one bit. I was running a portable cd-player-tape adapter to my tape deck for nearly 6 mos. but the sound was still LIGHT YEARS better than the stock speakers.

The stock cassette player really sucks!
The quality of the sound is awful...even i have good speakers in my front doors!
I used to have another unit(JVC DVD player) and the sound rocks!

Yes, I know the stocker cassette player sucks. But my speakers were even worse. I didn't even turn the volume up and blew them pretty quickly. Got new speakers, and it didn't sound bad at all. Imagine if I put that new HU in with the old speakers? :nonono:

I had thought the factory speakers were NOT 4 ohms, that they used a different resistance to maximize the Factory amps power. So I made sure to swap both HU and speakers at same time, just to be safe.

isn't underpowering a speaker just as bad as overpowering a speaker. therefor installing new speakers into the car with the stock headunit wouldn't be a good idea at all.

I'm no expert, but I'm not sure of the truth of that statement. But, as I've stated, in my case, I would have annihilated the stock speakers with a new HU, seeing as they were starting to go with the STOCK cassette player :nonono:. So I decided on the new speakers. As long as I didn't push the volume up causing distortion, my speakers were in no danger from what I could tell...

Yes and no.
If you listen to music as loud as possible, driving the amplifier in to clipping and distortion. You could possibly damage the speakers even if they can handle say 200 watt and you have the factory amp powering them (I know it less then 20 watts per channel). As long as you’re not crazy and think the distortion and clipping sounds better then listening at a lower volume, the upgraded speakers should be fine with the factory set up.

Just checked the ohm's of the factory speakers I took out of my car and they came out to be 3.2 ohm. Most aftermarket speakers will be 4 ohm. Not much of a difference when accounting for the inaccuracies of the meter used. Depending on the factory amp in the HU or the external amp it could possible produce more power the lower the ohms, until it heats up so much it destroys it self.

Factory speakers are 4 ohms, unless you're looking at a toyota with an infinity system or a GM with BOSE, they have 2 or 1 ohm speakers usually...... Fords, even when amplified are still usually 4 ohm, may be different on shaker systems, really haven't delt much with the speakers with them...

I ran my stock HU with aftermarket speakers for almost 1 year... no problems... Any problems were from the factory radio or amp, used to cause my front right to cut out sometimes for no reason... After I put a aftermarket HU in, I haven't had a problem with cutting out...
