im 16 and dont have a whole lot of money i have a 99 csvt. the engine is in great condition, but the body has hail damage, minor and major scratches, and some chips in the paint. i bought a sound system for the car and i am now debating if i should do anything more to the car and spend the money. should i just leave it stock and like it the way it is or should i by rims, tint, ect. for it. would it be lame to do stuff to it with a ok body and paint. just curious and your opinions and need some guidance.

What you have done to your car is what I have done to my car. I am going to replace the suspension and fix up some of the minor body dings and dents and call it a day. If you don't have the money, don't go gun ho on it....there are other things you can use the money on. Maybe mod the y-pipe, that is cheap and a decent mod.

Keep it simple if you're short on funds. I'd leave the car as stock as possible and just focus on maintenance.

I have some dents and alot of scratches too, but that dosent meen you shouldnt mod it. Make the paint look as best as it can and mods will make it better. I have been wanting/needing a paint job since I bought my car 5 years ago and I have spent the money on other things first. I drive it everyday and I drive it hard so the tranny upgrade was needed, clutch/flywheel was needed, lighter beter looking wheels, exhaust, intake ect made for better gas mileage with my tune.

If you have the money free to mod it and you want to then do it, its your choice man.

I used to use that excuse too. If you spent, say, $700 on all of that stuff and managed somehow to get, what, 4mpg better, it would take you a loooong time to make that up in gas savings. Like over 5 years, and that's with some pretty generous assumptions.

Yeah but shhhhhhh thats what I tell my wife, hey if I get this it saves fuel and that saves us money everyday and she says ok go ahead and get it:laugh:

Save your money for unexpected repairs. After you have a grand or so in the bank for emergencies, spend as you wish.

You're only in high school once .. have fun with mods, but only after that first amount is put away.

I agree with Rouar, however, small dings and dents can be fixed for dirt cheap with paintless dent removal, and you would be amazed at what a good swirl/scratch remover wax can do for your paint. Head over to your local auto parts store and get some Scratch/swirl remover, a clay bar, a bottle of cleaners wax, and a bottle of Megiars Gold class, and some spray detailer, I prefer Meguiars Ultimate quik detailer.

Trust me, paint can be fixed with time and effort and a little bit of money.
