hello, i have a quick question for yall! i have two blaupunkt vw1200 which are
dual voice coil... ( each coil have 2 ohms ) i have both coils on both subs hooked up for 4 ohms ... what is the best way to hook these up ... for the best sound? i have a 2 channel amp right now untill next payday when im gonna go get a kenwood amp

Here are a few options:

2_2ohmDVC_2ohm.gif

2_2ohmDVC_05ohm.gif

another option would be also to hook em up stereo, as all these examples are using a bridged hookup.

Heres some single examples

I wouldnt waste my time with a stereo hookup, just bang em at the lowest impedance your amp can handle hah.

im not sure what my amp can handle.. its just a cheapy amp ... that i got for free with an old sub.... which i think was bought at circuit city

Oh in that case, just hook em up like you have em now at 4 ohms to each channel so you don't risk blowing it at 2 ohms bridged Id say. Just to be on the safe side.

I mean of coarse Im sure you could send it 2 ohms bridged, but why risk maxing the gain out after all that. When you do upgrade to a bigger amp you could salvage that cheapo for your fronts or rears or somethin'.

so Id say 1 sub per channel at 4 ohms for now until upgrade.

Before you even think about wiring your subs... what does your amp put out?!? no sense in showing you ohm loads if your amp can't handle them...

OMG dude. Those vw1200 are HUUUUUUGEEE. for 99 bucks those look kinda raw. lemme know how they sound with a decent amp. why'dya pick those? get a good deal?

But anywayyy, Those look like they need some decent power to make that spider move, Id get an amp that pumps max watts at 2 ohms bridged.....other than that Id say get a US AMPS amplifier, they break an ohm easily, and looking at the 80 oz. magnets on those theyll probly need it. But get at least a 2 ohm capable amp in bridged mode should bang those nicely, and probly give you the best sound. Cause in that Ohm configuration there, being dual 2 ohm VC's, youre stuck at trying to hit 2 ohms bridged or lower. Unless you pay some dollars and get one that'll hit half an ohm or less.....but that MAY be overkill. Good luck. Stay away from old PPI amps cause usually most those do max bridged at 4 ohms.
But Ive seen good news on those kenwood KAC model Mono amps. that they go down to 1 ohm at 1700 watts so they say.

they sound excellent with the crappy amp i have right now, i have the amps set as they come out of the box (comes with a nice jumper cable) and the amp is only 100 watt rms bridged ... even with that little thing .. they hit harder then my friends mtx 12's with 1000 watt amp ... so im looking around for a decent amp now more close to the 1200watts they can truely handle
got both of them for 99 a piece
