All right, so I was all pumped that my gf was picking up her Contour today (and rightfully so), but now there has been a major deterrent. (Greg I've already left you a msg in case you read this before you get it, however unlikely that is) Apparently there is a leak in the high pressure power steering line, and there is a "rap" coming from the engine when it's cold (probably the Zetec tick, but they aren't familiar with it, but the worst it could be is a bad timing belt I would think). I checked out this repair guide on Autozone's site for the high pressure hose, and it seems complicated, but...how complicated? Like, how expensive would that run me/her? (excluding a cost of timing belt replacement) Blahhh this isn't turning out as nicely as I wanted :blackeye:

zetec will knock/tick alittle if they haven't been driven in a long time, that maybe normal.

Either have the dealer fix the leak or have them knock the price in half then use the saved money to get it fixed.

but you need to double check the engine.

if you can pull the timing cover and look at the belt. the noise could be the belt slapping the cover.

Greg is out of town until this thursday.

Crap, yeah I forgot he was away. Well I left him a voicemail. I'm sure he hasn't tackled this on the Zetec, he hasn't worked much with it. And the "friend" didn't check the timing belt . It requires the removal of two miniscule bolts, yet he didn't do it. I figured if he was concerned about the "rap" he would have. It may be possible this timing belt replaced. The car itself is old so it's likely it has been changed. I don't think the dealer is going to knock anything off the price, either. The original asking price was 1995, given that it had a PS leak, needed new tires, and a new battery. wtf??? But still, after looking at that repair guide, the price should be even cheaper with that kind of repair. 83 steps :blackeye:. Did you read through it? I nearly crapped a brick.

Yeah, our Zetec was a noisy little biltch. Like brapple said, they should have taken off the timing belt cover.

As far as the AC, all I had to do for our GL was to reduce the clutch shim and it worked well after that, but if there's a leak in the system then that's a whole different story.

Ian, want me to go check the car out?

oh just a thought, since there is a ps leak maybe its the pump thats making the noise?

If you could that would be AMAZING. I would love you forever, lol. You already know the obvious things to check out. But don't worry about the A/C if you do go. I talked to my gf and I convinced her that it won't be necessary to fix it until next spring at the latest. Although, knowing the problem is being half way to fixing it, so I'd still appreciate if you could take a peak at it Sunday, assuming this mess can be sorted out, and "Skeeter" (yeah, she already named the car) is in her possession :).

I'll see what I can do this week, you around the area any night this week?

MAYBE for a short period of time on Thursday. I'm working in Longmeadow until 6, and I'm gonna need to go back to school that night, but I might have a few minutes on hand.

Those are probably the only two in her price range. The first one is the one she was gonna buy, lol. The second, ehh, lots of miles...But maybe it'll be worth a look if "Skeeter" falls through.
