I bought a CSVT a month or so ago and the guy I bought it from said the original motor blew 40,000 miles ago..

OF COURSE-He could NOT find the paperwork to confirm this claim.
Is their any markings on a Ford replacement motor to indicate the motor is in fact replacement?

I ran a carfax before buying it but it showed no details of replacement..

all I can think of is if they swapped the whole engine and didn't swap anything over you could look at the white sticker on the front valve cover on the passanger side of the car, I believe there is a date there for when the engine was built. Not sure if there would be any other markings

There should be a casting number on the motor that should correlate to the VIN. Course, I don't know where it's at, or how exactly it correlates. Sorry.:o

mine has a badge on the backside of the block on the pass side. i noticed it when i did my alt. mine says ford factory reman and the date

My exhaust manifolds had similar badges when I Got them replaced under emissions warranty. I kind of want to hang them up on a wall.

All cast parts have a date code on them somewhere. All I know for the contour is that the UIM is on the underside near the TB. Not sure where the block would be.

Also even if you found the date code, it may not be straight forward. Where I work over the summer we used casting date codes like 77b which would be 2007, July, 2nd. So I'm sure ford would use there own coding system as well.
