Mystique Rear Dome Light

I've got one laying around that I planned on installing in my Mystique but never got around to it.

I may install it in the CSVT, but I don't want to cut the headliner in the wrong spot...

Actually now that I think of it, I may have two of these laying around...

If you cut in the wrong spot then you need glasses.

Just remove the rear plugs on the headliner first and put your hand under there. Feel around on the roof for the hole. Then just poke a hole in the headliner and keep expanding the hole until it's the right size. You really can't screw up.

The light also covers any imperfections in the cut.

For future reference, I found the bulb base that came with mine. The glass part was missing when I received it, but the base was there. The base disappeared while I was doing the installation.

In very small print, etched into the metal, was the number 5008.

Also of slight interest is another possible source. When getting something out of the back of the Escape over the weekend, I looked up at the dome light at the very rear of the headliner, and at first glance it looks the same as the one I installed in the SVT.

I bought a ba15s based bulb that also fit. Although it burned out quickly...stupid cheap "xenon" bulbs...

Yeah that's not all that fun but not that bad. I snaked my wiring along the driver's side of the hoodliner. It's pretty easy but be gentle around the area where the oh-crap handles are. You don't want to pull too hard and put a crease in the headliner near that area. I think I removed the A pillar and the rear pillar and just pulled the liner out for access.

damnit, someone needs to do a how to with pics....and the weather sucks outside, so maybe another day.

Just go to your car and look! It's so easy, if I can do it anyone can! And I'm mostly retarded, mostly! A straightened out coathanger helps to run wire a little bit as well.

I think with a sunroof you should drop the headliner. I thought about trying to route the wires around with the headliner in place but it saved tons of time to just drop it down.

just pull the weather stripping back around the door and tuck the wires up under the headliner ... hardest part is gettin the wires from the light location to the edge of the headliner and a straightened hanger works well ...

can this be installed with a rear roof mount antenna? I don't know if there is enough room in there for both....

that's what i was thinking, might do some reading on removing the headliner, cause that way i can make sure it's all spiffy and up to my standards.

Don't make this harder than it needs to be. By removing the retainers in the back, loosening up the rear and center pillar trim, removing the rear grab handle, removing the drivers sun visor, and the A pillar trim one has more than enough play to access the area without damage to the head liner. Make the splice to the wires in the A pillar area there is plenty of room. You will even have room to pop in the hanger clips if you want. I do think that with a moonroof I would remove the trim welt around the inside of the opening it just pulls off.

Now if you were really particular you could remove the entire harnsess from a mystique w/ or wo/ moonroof, clip it in the A pillar area and after dropping the headliner reinstall it. That would be the closest to factory
