Anyone dealt with these guys recently? Are they still around, or are they just avoiding me because I need my broken gear replaced? Their site is still up and they have auctions on ebay.

Sunroof Gear

I'd imagine they're still around i got one from them about a month ago off ebay...service was fast...

I got mine from odometergears.com and have nothing but good things to say about them. Have heard similarly good things about the other guy but can't speak from personal experience.

Considering Jeff Caplan of odometergears.com is a personal friend of the sunroofgears.com guy, and they have been "in competition" and in a friendly manner of doing so, for YEARS.. I'd think that he would be reputable, as well.

He gets Jeff's personal recommendation, if you weren't to choose to go through odometergears.com

The problem is I've already bought a gear through SG.com and after a year of use, its teeth have broken off. I've emailed them several times about getting a replacement with no response. I didn't want to turn around and spend another 60 bucks to replace a gear that was supposed to be guaranteed for life. If I do end up having to buy another one, it will be through odometergears.

I've sent two more emails and still no response. They have another email listed in their paypal info which I'll try. Anyone have a reciept from them with a phone number on it?

Welcome to the club gentleman.

I've broken gears from both aftermarket companies, and emails to both of them get you no-where. I got 100$ worth of junk plastic now sitting in my parts box...

Though I had my sunroof fixed by getting a replacement stock gear.

Well mine broke a week after I got it and odo gears sent me a new one within the week for free. No complaints here.
Incidentally, someone managed to get some replacement gears from Webasto for free, so you could maybe try that.

I just searched before recommending Odometer gears. I found them while looking for a new odo gear for my BMW, and the first thing I though was - "Contour Sunroofs! FTMFW!"

Guess I should update this. I finally got ahold of SG through a different email address and they immediately sent out a replacement gear. Not sure why they avoided all my other emails but I guess I can't complain about them now.

Update

Update

I recently found myself in need of a sunroof gear and after fruitlessly searching all the local PNP's I could not even find a Contour/Mystique with a sunroof!

I read this thread and contacted Odometergears.com and got some bad news. He told me the deal was just not working for him and he got out of the business and liquidated all his inventory. He told me he did not mind replacing gears for free a time or two, but 3 or more gets old. He said there were just too many variables and things out of his control that could cause the part to fail on a sunroof.

He recommended Rennbay (AKA sunroofgears.com). I picked up on of thier gears on an ebay auction. No communication, but fast shipping, good instructions and it works like new.

FYI

According to their site, if you keep the packing slip, sunroof.com has their phone number posted on it. It may save you the EMAIL frustration.
