I have MB Quart 5x7's in the front doors right now being driven by an old school orion colbolt amp 200.4 bridged down to 2 channels. Each speaker from what I remember is getting 80-100w (edit, its 140w rms) RMS. Now, the doors don't have as much bass as i'd like them to have. My car sounds... unbalanced... I have 1 DEI studio 12" in a sealed box with a directed 250d amp. So its not like my sub is overpowering or anything like that.

I seem to remember reading a bit ago about some shallow 6x9's that were slightly massaged to fit into the door. Would that be a good option for more bass? I talked to dnewman a very long time ago and he sent me a link on melonheadaudio. The link had all the stuff I needed to buy and the wiring diagram on how to build my own components with some vifa tweeters and 7" rounds for midbass drivers. Does anyone here get that link from him? I'd love to go with something larger and I think 7" rounds would be the way to go, as from what I saw in steeda's posts there is a bunch of cutting for 8" woofers. I know 7" will require some modification, but I think I could do that much.

I got a pair of 5.25" phoenix gold octane R components sitting in a box but I really doubt they would put out more bass then what I have right now. Anyone know of a solution to this?

A nice and easy way to help your situation would be to get some dynamat or similar sound deadening and seal your door. Meaning take the panel off and remove the foam then use pieces of the mat to cover all of the holes in the metal door its self. You will be in other words making an enclosure out of your door which should result in better bass response. There are companies that make 8 inch midbass drivers and even some that offer 8 inch component sets. I have a set of Memphis 8 inch components sitting here I havent got to install yet my self. Always remember too that a round speaker is going to give you a better sound than an oval.

Thanks, though I think stuffing 8's in the door is more cutting then I really want to do =(

Well with the depth of most you would need a spacer anyway so there might be little to no cutting required. to put mine in i should just have to do a little trimming and a spacer so they wont hit the window

Could you either post or pm me the model of the 8's you got? I am taking my door panel off (again) today to do some measuring.

I should probably dynamat the doors now. I did the floor under the carpet when I ran the wires for both amps last year. Trunk should be done too. I said i'd do the doors when i put in something better then these quarts, since people were saying this was the biggest difference. Here's to hoping it is.

like i said above make sure to seal the doors with it and you will be amased at the difference
