Leaking IAC valve

Howdy all. Wondering if anyone can help?

My car is hissing air around the IAC, around the blanked off circle, which is at the back of the IAC (as your looking at the engine with the hood up).

I figured the IAC was faulty, so I bought a brand new one from Ford, and replaced the gasket. The hissing, and air leak is still there, although not as bad.

The effect on the car is, choppy idle when its cold. Once warm, its fine.

What are the odds this new IAC is faulty? Is there something else wrong which is causing abnormal pressure in the intake, causing this air leak? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Ps, I drove the car today with the heat shield, and it certainly does make a difference :)

The IAC valves suck on these cars so it's possible the new one is leaking. You haven't happened to do this, have you?:

I believe when I first did that with too small of a hole in the cap, it caused the IAC valve to leak. With a bigger hole it's ok but the rpm don't drop quite as fast as I'd like now.

Also, you might could use some sort of epoxy, jb weld, or something on that circle part so you don't have to get a new iac valve. I haven't ever tried that but I've thought about it.

Thanks for your reply. I have actually done that to mine too, so perhaps its causing the IAC to fail. The new one failed right away in that case!

I will get a new one, and make the hole in the O-ring slightly bigger. The car ran fine for a few months with the throttle hang fix before this happened.

its also been said on here that the IAC needs to come from ford. and you gambling with an aftermarket one. i was told this by a shop as well.
