Noob Question about Secondaries

I've seen mentioned in several articles about the Secondaries opening. What are they and what does that mean them opening? Can anyone point to or giva a good explanation? TIA.

the lower intake manifold has primary and secondary ports. The secondary ports have butterfly valves (much like that of the throttle body) that remained closed but open up at 3750 RPMs by the IMRC (intake manifold runner control). The secondaries are there to boost low end torque when they are closed.

I have 115k on the Sport, and it sees 4000+ rpm almost every day. The secondaries still open just fine. The only known issue is that the placement of the IMRC over the engine could cause failure due to heat.

Will using the secondaries too much wear out the IMRC cable?? Just a thought.

Adam

Yes sometimes the cable can break, when I took mine apart I noticed that it was wearing out and had to clean out little pieces of the cable. I think I remember reading that a bicycle cable can replace it. I'll be doing that soon. Then again some people have never had problems with it  .

my dads got 261,xxx Miles on his 98 SVT and no problems what so ever with the IMRC or cables or hell. anything. daily surpasses the 4000RPM mark
