Hi folks, I've got a strange no-start issue. I've browsed the posts and haven't found anything that seems exactly the same. But here it is. Sometimes, the car will crank but not fire. My daughter drives it most of the time, and she says it happens more when it's hot (but not necessarily meaning the engine is hot, just hot days). This is a 98 contour. Now, I had the very same problem on an Acura, and it turned out to be a relay that has a bad habit of developing a cold solder joint over time due to repeated heating of the circuit during starting. The fix for this (thanks to another great online forum) was to pull the relay, and simply re-solder the joint on the little circuit board inside. The problem was, when it was hot outside, things in the relay would expand just enough that the circuit would not make up. When it was cold, there was usually no problem. I think that circuit powered up the fuel pump. So it would crank fine but was not getting gas. This one seems awfully like that, but it's hard to imagine the very same issue is going on. Anyone have any suggestions?

Does your fuel pump work? Try turning the key to "on" and listen for the fuel pump to pressurize.

there should always be pressure in the fuel line, some atleast. so, if the fuel pump wasn't powered, it should still atleast begin to start for a second, then die. sorry i don't have an answer for you, though, bud.

You should qualify the IAC (idle air control). If it is sticking shut, it will keep the engine from lighting up. It is more likely to act up when cold, but has been known to act up when hot.

Qualify it by next time it won't start, try cracking the throttle slightly and if it immediately lights off, it is probably the IAC, Sometimes it can be cleaned and sometimes it needs to be replaced.
