Hey guys!!I hope all is well with everyone!!

Wanted to drop you all a line to let you know that my son Colin and I have been going down to the Berlin Turnpike the last two saturdays....last Saturday was absolutely unbelievable!!

Anyway, there's a group of us that goes down to the Dunkin' Doughnuts and just hangs out....we don't race. There's a 2004 RX-8, another SVT Focus, a stupid fast 1995 Ford Escort GT with a JDM Mazda turbo motor in it, a 350Z, and a 1995 Mazda MX-6(there ya go, Ashley) in our little "group". I'm tryin to get down there (weather permitting) every Saturday night...just wanted to give everyone the heads up that the "Pike" is alive and well. I was talking about my "old" SVT Contour and the funny thing is, that not one SVT 'Tour was down there the last two weekends I've been there...

Yeah. I used to go a lot but since i live farther now and my car is slow it's really a pain in the ass. Especially since I heard thepolice were really cracking down on people going out there. Maybe I'll head up in a week or two I just hate rolling alone. Anybody else up fro a cruise out there?

actually....

actually....

The only people I saw getting harangued were the morons who were racing in front of the cops....that's why we mostly just hang out, have some Turbo coffees and just shoot the s**t....can't get points on your license doing that.

I'll head down there one saturday night if I don't head to my parents ... but then again I have been just about every weekend I don't have anything else going on to help get that mustang back up and running

I'll look for the FSVT at DD if I am down there ... which DD, the one at the top of the pike, the new one I beleive of the one near CC and BB where the typically older crowd with the older cars hang out

If my car wasn't such a POS, I'd prolly go a lot more. I went twice this summer.

I can't wait till my suspension is rebuilt.

I think a few of the Cougar folks have been trying to get people together to meet down there weekly.
Keep an eye out for them, maybe you all could hang together.

btw folks, CEG has a strict policy on street racing threads.
Please keep those discussions off the boards (and be good kids and don't race on the pike! :p )
Thanks.

where is this place?

and i still dont understand CEG's ruthless opposition to street racing, people are going to talk about it thats why there should be one section called street racing and nothing goes outside that section and if you dont like street racing Stay the f out. thats how it should be.

this site has never condoned street racing.
i am not going to preach about the dangers of street racing, because i am sure you know them.

It's been hashed a billion times.
There are multiple reasons for the no street racing rule, one big one is the owner of the site being held accountable for illegal street racing discussions.
Plus, let's not overlook the dangers and people getting killed by street racing each year. There's need to hash that out in this thread.
If you have a problem with the site rules, you can A) vent it to WorldTour through a pm rather than a thread hijack or B) go find a site that better suits you.

Fact is, a lot of people DON'T street race on the Berlin turnpike in CT, but it is a good place to see cars and be seen. The original intent of this thread is to invite others to hang out. Let's try to stick with the focus of the thread here.

Thanks

plus the fact is there is a cop on jest about every corner normally and they are all over with unmarked cars so it isn't even worth it. I suppose it happens someplace else now ...

but its a good place to meet up with people and watch the cars ... if you don't get kicked out from where you are watching from ....

I used to go and race when I was young and stupid. Got my first ticket on The Pike. I smoked the tires at a green light not knowing there was a cruiser about 6 cars back.

Now I just go to cruise for a little while, check out the nice cars, laugh at the sh*tty ones, and bullsh*t with some people. Occasionally a nice burnout in the Wendy's parking lot.

S2Knott, I'm suprised you haven't heard of it. Probably the biggest cruise scene in New England. And it's every single weekend. Not just once and a while.

I see cars from surrounding states there all the time.

The last few times I have come down through it at night it appears the burger king parking lot is the place to hang out. I have seen some very nice muscle cars there and a lot of cars there. Most times I am going through I am with the wife and kid in the CRV and we need to get home. Maybe if I notice some SVTC out I will go home and come back out with the fun car.

I know about no racing..

I know about no racing..

I don't go down there to race....It is just a spot (since there seem to be so few left) to check out people's rides and have some good conversation....last week was an aberration, there are always cops around anyway, and street racing is just plain stupid. I was dumbfounded at teh amount of racing that I was seeing, which is why I posted that, I was certainly not condoning it...BTW, there was a fatality down there a month ago, so it certainly is dangerous and stupid.

Whoever posted that there are people from all over, you are absolutely correct- I was talking to a guy from Brooklyn ,NY who came out with his modded ZX5....

Kim is right....the point of the thread was that there is still a place (somewhat) locally to hang out with gearheads and just talk about cars....I thought it would be kinda cool to get the "old" CEGer's back together for a night. I won't be there this Saturday, but will try for next week.

I'll have to try and get some pics from the Pike the next time I'm out there...BTW, Colin was accepted into Technical school next year...where does the time go???? It's funny, he's now thinking about cars he'd like to buy after he gets his license on the SVT 'tour is at the top of the list....he'd love a 2003 Cobra, but I told him to be practical and buy a car that's decent on gas, low on insurance, can at least think about driving it in the snow, etc....Here's the school he's going to- he had to apply and be accepted based on aptitude and grades from Junior High:
