I have a 99 CSVT built on 11/30/98.... I just changed my front brake pads and it seems as if my brakes are sliding on the rotor ALL THE TIME. Whether im hitting the brakes or not....it doesnt feel like its slowing me down in anyway but very annoying... "ssssssssss" rubing sound..... when I do press down on the brake it sounds like AN EMPTY Brake with no Brake Material on it scratching/rubbing on the rotor(Like the Metal On Metal Sound)....

I am in college right now and have had no look see under the car.....

Any Ideas...

Edit: Also I have type B Caliper and the old brake pad bracket matched the new one as well as the shape(I checked the B.A.T.catalogue to see which one I have)....

This is also related cause i got this after installing my brake pads.....

I Have a 99 CSVT....... I was backing up into my parking spot and in order to str8en out the car into the spot, I turned the steering wheel to the left, as i was reversing..I gave the car a enough power to get into the spot and put it into NEUTRAL and I felt kind of a bump, skip or something in the suspension missed some type of gear......

I didnt get the chance to look under the car cause im in college right now.... what components should I look for in order to see what is the problem..
and if anybody has had this problem or knows what it is and how to diagnose it before I got off buying a whole bunch of parts...

Thanks In Advance....

Check your outside brake spring

Check your outside brake spring

I had a similar problem with my 99 4 cyl, it turned out that the previous owner had replaced the pads but did not install the outside spring properly, this allowed the caliper to tilt outwards and hit the inside of the wheel. To check to see if this is the problem, pull the wheel and see if the outside edge of the caliper is shiny, if so you have located the problem.

I fixed my problem by installing the spring properly. No $$ involved

Best of luck

I looked at my caliper and it doesnt look as if it is messed up..... I also have my calipers painted red and it doesnt look scraped...

What do you mean the spring was installed incorrectly.... Dont they just go into the holes that are they are right in front of them..

Just to make sure can you tell me what correctly is....

Amyn,

I'd recommend taking some photos of your calipers and post them.

I would bet that you have reinstalled the springs incorrectly, and they are not holding the calipers together properly.

Definitely a possibility! I will post pictures of the caliper tomorrow Morning!... But what is the wrong way of installing the spring clips???? or Better yet what is the right way.....

The springs

The springs

The springs should not only go into the holes on the caliper, but also UNDER the tabs on the caliper mount, it is easy to install OVER the tabs, but that does not hold the outside of the caliper down.

Sorry I don't have pictures, maybe some more helpful person out there can post.

O ya I they did go over the tab........so..... But I showed it to somebody i know at sears auto center and he has a CSVT. He reminded me there are Torx screws behind the bushings.. Guess who didnt tighten those...

Can those solve the problem???

I got pictures but im eating with my GF right now....

The Spring looks to be over the tabs and everything...
Also when installing the brakes, I DID NOT MESS WITH THE BUSHINGS and SLIDER PINS..... can this have effected me in anyway???? What do i have to do to them during a brake pad change.....

I know I need new rotors....they are coming in the mail tomorrow.....

How did you change the pads

How did you change the pads

the springs look correct.

Did you remove the whole caliper mount when you replaced your pads? Usually I remove the spring, and the 2 slider pins to replace pads, it is more accessible and it gives me a chance to inspect and lubricate the pins.

If your noise persists, I would remove the pins to make certain they are not sticking and slide freely, use a # 47 torx, not the #40 the manual suggest. But given the design of the plastic bushings and steel pins this is probably not your problem

I didnt move the slider pins at all, I mean i didnt loosen them to put the pad in, but the brake pad is in the piston all the way. I really have to give those slider pins a shot, but it has gotten worse as i drove to class and back and my ride home is about 40 miles north.....

sucks not having tools with you at the moment....
