Drivers will be able to use the 7¼ mile highway between Rialto and San Bernardino starting on Tuesday.
Caltrans crews are busy putting the finishing touches on the new stretch of freeway that links the 210 with Route 30.
It is the final phase of the 210 expansion project that began in Upland nearly ten years ago.
"The main purpose of route 210 is to provide an alternate to Interstate 10. This provides a new east-west connection further north. So folks who live in the communities like Fontana, Rialto and San Bernardino will have a new way to travel east and west. "says Cheryl Donahue, Caltrans Spokesperson.
Many Inland Empire residents who currently use surface streets as alternatives have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the extension.
"I don't have to commute it everyday. But I do appreciate it when I do go in because I do a lot of community work in and out of the area. This will make it a lot faster," explains Elaine Wilson, Rialto Resident.
"Yes, I am very excited. Now I can go downtown and get home quick," says Maria Morales, Glendora Resident.
But many residential communities in the San Gabriel Valley say that the traffic is already heavy going into the Los Angeles area. And they say having more vehicles on the freeway will have an impact.
"Unfortunately, I am not looking forward it to because I know it's already congested and I think it's going to just add to that congestion. So just being in L.A., not really looking forward to additional traffic," says Wes Tang, Commuter.
In the future the 210 will be linked with the 215 which means motorists will be able to travel from Sylmar to Redlands on a continuous stretch of the 210 Freeway.
This last sentence don't make much sense, when the 210 opens up you can take it all the way back to the 10 in Redlands, Ca.
210-30 (all one fwy) links up with the 10 in Redlands.
