I post more about my transmission rebuild latter or you go see my website now.
Basically my third gear syncro went out so I needed to replace either the syncro or the transmission. I always wanted the 4.06 final and lsd so I decided to find out how much it would cost me to rebuild it with those parts. My scholarship for college fell through, so in short, my funds were dramatically reduced.

I found out soon afterwards that they don't make a 4.06 kit for my car anymore, so the only way to achieve the swap would be to get a v6 contour transmission for donor. Tom at focus sport helped me figure that out, and I sourced a v6 contour tranny for 150.00 with low miles. A plus that happened when I bought the v6 is that it has a billet differential rather than the weak cast differential that the focus has as well as the double blocker syncros. I figured that latter I could put in a Phantom Grip with the stronger differential.

I ordered my parts from the dealer at just over cost "bearings, syncro" and used the lightly used syncros off the v6. I did all the work using a ford manual for a 2004 transmission from KentSVT on focus fanatics. I also received some help from Terry Haines. I ended up using the newer style syncro for third gear. Anyway, this isn't a home job, its very frustrating and will take at least a month for a novice that doesn't have my early transmission. If you have my transmission it will take longer.

Oh and tomorrow I'm taking it to a tranny rebuilder to double check my preload. $50.00 is worth the piece of mind.

I have the Phantom Grip. Well worth the savings over the Quaife or torsen. THING IS AMAZING!!

I used this contour site to find out about the mtx-75 before I rebuilt it so I decided to share what I did here as well as at the focus forums I belong to.
I had the transmission double checked by a tech today and it looks like I'm in the clear. I cant wait to get it back in my car and try out the 4.06 final. IF you have any questions post them I'll try to answer them if I know the answer.

Heres some more Pics. Sorry about the quality but, there was stuff on the lens. I'm pretty proud of myself for this rebuild and conversion.

So heres my update, I had it checked by a friend at AMCO and it was in good shape. The install took a while and I drove it yesterday. I love the 4.06 but the 6 puck is a little rough. I now am replacing a timing belt and tensioner as my tensioner broke on the test drive chewing up half the belt. I thought I was finally done!!

It will be a while till I have the money to do it. I plant to have it by the next clutch job, which should be too long. I'll tell you all about it when I do it. I promiss
