Hmmm yes, it is a totally new trunk lid! It's a completely different shape around the reverse lights and everything...May I ask what happened to the old one?? And yes, take off the Mercury emblem and get a cool circular SVT emblem or something to put there...

i really love t-red cars...but SF is probably the best all around color because it looks good, great, and fantastic depending on time of day!

Hmm heres the run down of the Mystique rear reflector.

My car previously to my SVTC was a Zetec Auto 99 Merc Stique. I liked the rear reflector much better then the Contour version.

The crome strip on the top made me think, and others, Taurus. Plus with the spoiler crome strip and the way the reflection is at night it looks WAY to busy. Lines going left right up down, it just looked like crap.

The Mystique version is much smother, plus has much nicer reverse light housings and a better interior reflectors. Only one problem, it has a chrome stip running along the bottom of it, ugh. So i hatched up a plan and decided to see how well a swap would work.

So took off the rear reflectors on both of them.

And swaped them

perfect fit!

But the chrome problem had to go, so I grabbed some ultra non fade black spray paint and some primer and murderd the ugly chrome.

I really liked how it had turned out, save for the pass side light that my sister had messed up when she crashed the Stique into a barb wire fence. So I purchased another and thats the end of the rear reflector swap.

I still havent decided on what to put in the Mercury emblems place, or even how to take it out. Taking it out scares me becouse I don't want to mess it up.

I still don't find the chrome strip to be a big deal to me (at least not enough to swap lids)-- However, I do want to paint the strip Black (color match).. Just so it flows with the horribly, yet newly painted grill lol

You still haven't decided about what to do with the fuggin Mercury logo? :nonono:

Is it really that hard?

Lookin very clean though. Love the SF front oval. It flows so perfect on SF Contours.

I'm sure you could.... It doesn't even look bad  I kinda like the mercury emblem.

I'm not shure you can as it Isn't like the ford emblems, its got some acctual depth to it. So if you lay vynal right on top of it, the it won't be on an even surface and will pry show through.

That and the Merc logo has grown on me. So thats why its taken me so long.

iirc, you can just pop out the emblem. take a real tiny flat head. just go to the junkyard and try it on a car there. if i were back in buffalo, i'd do it for you

ive had the stocker, painted stocker, pre98 lid, and the mercury reflector. i still have the mystique one on my car, and i even like the emblem. ive had it for about three months like this the only thing that bothers me is it's lighter in shade than my contour taillights so i might have to swap the lighter mystique lights in.

anyhow nice looker :)
