Has anybody attempted or succesfully put an auto in an SVT. I know it sounds like blasphemy but my wife loves my SVT but shes gonna be having knee surgery and needs an auto.

So would it be easier to by an SE V6 auto and swap a 3L in or buy an SVT and just do a full 3L w/Auto trans from a Tauras if it would even work.

The Taurus trans will not fit. Russell had a 3.0 with an automatic that he later converted to a manual trans, but that's the opposite of what you would like to do.

A complication would be that the PCM in the SVT has no accomodation for an automatic trans, so you would need a PCM from an auto trans car and then get a tune to accommodate the SVT engine.

It would take a lot of work, possibly including changing the front sub frame.

A slight improvement may be from using the Escape transmission. It is the same overall design, but came from the factory behind a 3.0.

All in all it would be easier to buy an SE V6 and do the 3L swap. There have been a few Cougar guys that have done it with success.

So the mounting is the same for the Escape trans & our axels will fit??

I've got a 3L swap coming up & I thought I might investigate a two-fer by dropping in the tranny if it'll work. I can extend wires & change connectors as needed, and if required, I can fiddle with some electronics to make signals compatible.

here is the list of parts that you need for a atx to mtx swap, so you will need the opposite .... what you would need is a complete parts car that you can take everything from ...

For RETURN or returnless fuel system

MAIN HARNESS, ECU, and KEY CHIP

MTX transmission (w/ original T.O.B./slave cylinder)
Shift Tower
Shift Cables and bracket to Tranny
Shifter with cage
Shift Knob... Clutch and Brake pedal assembly with correct harness and switches (includes lines to Slave cylinder and Brake fluid resevoir)
MTX Top Tranny Mount
MTX Lower Front and Rear mounts
MTX subframe
Clutch, Flywheel, and Pressure plate
Shim plate between Tranny and Motor
MTX Half shaft
MTX Driver's side Axle

please don't do this to a SVT, get a SE and go from there with what you want to do ...

Problem is that to make an SE look like an SVT I would spend more than just buying an SVT and doing a swap.

Are u f'n kidding me? Slapping on some bumpers is more difficult than reworking the entire drivetrain?!!!:help: Most ppl can't even tell the difference between an SE and SVT on the street. She probably couldn't even tell the difference driving the 2. An auto is going to suck the life out of any engine you do.

Get your wife an SE or Mystique LS with an auto and drop a 3L in it if she wants more performance. You can pick up a fine example of one of those for about $3k.
