west coast swap

There have been a two or three 3.0 swaps here in SoCal that I know of. One was done by ShoShop which isn't around anymore and the others were done by the car owners as far as I know. Those guys don't post much on this site though.

I did my own swap (live in California). It was worth to know that it was done the way I wanted it done. Invest in some tools and do it yourself - the tools would probably cost you less than a shop will charge you to do the same work.

There are really two questions to have answered here:

1) Who can properly prepare a 3L for the swap procedure
2) Who can properly perform the swap procedure

Compile a list of names for each task. For the first task, determine who you trust that can do the job for an agreeable amount. For the second task, you still need to determine who you trust to do the job well for an agreeable amount, but you also need to consider how far you are willing to travel. I dare say that the swap procedure itself can be performed in a weekend, if no fabrication is necessary, making for an excellent excuse to take a road trip out of state. Say, Michigan. ;)

If nobody in your area can do it then your kind of screwed. For shipping to me figure ~$800 to ship a non-operational car and then the cost of a plan ticket out and gas to drive home. It's not cheap.

trip to vegas anyone?

trip to vegas anyone?

Alright! Just thot of sumthn. Which of you professional 3L swapping folks will bite on this? To ship the car east back n forth will cost an arm and a leg. Not including a plane ticket for maself. Didnt even talk about the motor shipping. Here's wot am thinking... Who can afford to come to vegas, say for a weekend, stay in one of the famous strip hotels on me, and drop in ma 3L during his or her stay? This seems a lot easier, cheaper, smarter(i hope), than shipping tha car back n forth. At least thats tha way i see it anyway... Any takers? Blackcoog, soopa, dan, reebs, joey? Anyone?:). Oh, almost forgot... you'll be getting paid per hour too. Thats negotiable. If you feel more comfortable via pm, pls do so.

wouldn't you just be shipping the car 1 way since u'll get to drive it home?

but it's still expensive to ship though....

well i finished my swap by myself on tuesday 8/21/07 using old tools from my great grandpa's garage and an angle grinder lol to grind down the motor mount but i used a comalong *spelling* and a tree branch to pull it and drop it honestly i work at my job from 10am to 10pm i did it in the dark outside crawling in the dirt under the car in about 18 hours timing myself by myself.. i'll fly out to help ya out but the only problem's i have had is the vac lines i just havn't seen the diagram on the 3.0 to the 2.5 .. next Q are you doing a full 3.0 or a hybrid i have done the full 3.0 never the hybrid. if u have the tools i'll doi it limited 2.5 to 3.0 swaps but many engine swaps 2.3 ford mustang to 5.0 HO then 2.0 ford ZX2 to 2.0 ZX2 VCT turbo and 2.5 svt to 2.5 svt then 2.5 svt to 3.0 full swap .. and the all still rin i sold the mustang 5.0 to my lil brother the zx2 to my old roomate stationed in Wa state and im the proud owner of the 2 svt's i have done swaps on but let me know ... if not good luck ..
